Aurora Harper sold her soul to the devil. It goes without saying that she’ll never be able to escape me.
Aurora is mine, and I’ll bring chaos to the world to protect what’s fucking mine.
My breathing hitches as I meet Jonathan’s raging grey eyes. “Fascinating, Aurora. Fascinating indeed.”
My legs fail me, and I slip to a sitting position. Two realisations hit me at once. One. I failed the only escape I could’ve had from here, because now that Jonathan knows of my intentions, he’ll make sure I never have the chance to repeat it. Two. I have a weird sensation that I’m reliving Alicia’s fate all over again.
The fact that he could use my body against me scared me. It still does, but now, I feel like I’m suspended in an altered reality. Now, I don’t have the right to think about anything past the fact that I hurt him. I could’ve killed him. I could’ve lost him once and for all.
“Don’t cry again.” His voice is hard yet tender at the same time. “Those eyes aren’t made for tears.”
But then he stares at me over his shoulder and gives me that look again. The pity. The disappointment. He…he’s going to get rid of me, isn’t he? Just like Alicia.
All I keep thinking about is those voices grating on my nerves and whispering things like: She’s losing her mind, just like Alicia.
He hesitates. It’s the first time I’ve witnessed Aiden hesitating. “Jonathan never looked at her the way he looks at you.”
“You don’t seem to understand what it means to be mine. It’s not only about how you belong to me, or that I’ll cut off the dick of any bastard who looks your way and shove it up his arse. It’s also about how I’ll protect you from the world and yourself if I have to. It’s about burning your obstacles so you can leave the shadows and shine like you were always meant to. You can provoke or test me or even give me that fucking attitude, but you do not get to run away from me.”
He leans back into the car to glare at Ethan. “Get off my property and don’t show your face here again.” “A thank you would be nice,” Ethan shoots back. “You’re lucky that I’m not setting you and your car on fire.”
I’ll keep owning her until I put a fucking baby inside her. In the past, Aiden was the only offspring I needed, but now, I’m chaining Aurora to me, and if a baby is what it’ll take, then that’s what it will be.
It all makes sense now, the fact that he’s never used a condom and that at some point, he started coming inside me and often fucks his seed into me. Or the fact that he nodded with approval when I told him I don’t use any birth control. The tyrant has been trying to impregnate me all this time.
“You can’t put a baby in me. I’m barren, Jonathan.” My voice chokes on his name and I sit up, needing the distance.
“I was born this way. I discovered it in my late teens when I went to the GP for birth control. She ran some tests and told me I was born with a genetically damaged ovary, so I can never have children of my own.”
“Because the world needs to bend the knee for my queen.” My queen. My mouth falls open and my eyes nearly bug out.
I’m not becoming deaf, right? Because I think Jonathan just called me his fiancée in front of the entire world.
“I’m not protecting you because you’re a woman. I’m protecting you because you’re my woman.”
“In case you haven’t figured out the answer, listen carefully, Aurora,” he whispers in dark words against my mouth. “I will not let you go.”
The sound of Alicia’s voice plays in my head like a haunting song on repeat. Her words, her helplessness, her final moments. That’s where Dad had been that morning. He was chasing Alicia before she crashed, then he returned to bury his seventh victim. He was there with her as she spit out her last breaths.
