She tripped slightly, Constance catching her elbow before she could make an utter fool of herself.
He wasn’t sure what to call that color of blue, but her eyes were stunning, and he was, well, stunned. They were the same shade as the water near some of the Florida beaches he’d seen on vacation.
That earned a full smile from Scarlett, accompanied by a shake of her head. Damn, she was a knockout. Who the hell left a woman like that to walk down the street?
Scarlett answered in a tone that made him exceptionally glad he wasn’t the one who’d forgotten.
Trouble. For the first time in her life, she didn’t want to avoid it.
“It is most assuredly my loss,” she professed, the words ringing true in her own ears. She shouldn’t go.
He pulled her to her feet in one smooth motion, and she caught herself with a palm to his muscular chest. There was nothing soft or yielding under her fingertips.
Me. As if I were something just as rare and valuable as the treasures that filled this room.
It was of her and Grandpa Jameson, both in uniform, so lost in each other that my chest ached for what they’d had…and lost.
Man, it was those eyes that just about knocked him on his ass every time. She could have asked for the moon, and he would have flown his Spitfire into the stratosphere just to get her to look at him like she was right now.
Finally. She felt as though she’d been waiting a lifetime for this man, this kiss, this moment, and it was finally here. There was no hesitation on her part, no gasp of surprise as he stroked his lips across hers, kissing her softly.
he said with a flash of a smile. “We’ll do it together. You are mine, Scarlett Wright, and I am yours, and from this second on, we don’t keep secrets.”
