Many of us who grew up Christian were taught that the relationship between the two testaments is one of prophecy and fulfillment. The Old Testament prophesies the coming of the Messiah, and this is fulfilled in Jesus. This relationship of prophecy and fulfillment was commonly understood as prediction and fulfillment.
