I can travel and eat out without having to think about how I will navigate public transportation or the security terminal at the airport. But at the same time, when my able-bodied privilege is brought up, I am not defensive or deflective, and it is not uncomfortable for me to talk about. Why? There’s part of me that feels like it’s because race and gender have become such politicized topics.
