“I’m sorry them monsters did this to you. They took Eli, but don't worry.” Her palm flattens on my cheek, determination shining in her sparkling blue eyes. “I won’t allow them to take you, too.”
“No,” Ronan clutches his heart dramatically, closing in on her. “I might die if I don’t see you again.” “Then die.” Teal turns around and heads in Knox’s direction without a glance back.
My monster is all tall, powerful, and beautiful. My monster is Aiden King.
“I don’t give promises I don’t keep. You’re the one who does that over and over again. I told you loving me is a one-way road. I told you not to say the fucking words if you didn’t mean them.” I throw a glance at him over my shoulder. “I meant those words. I love you, Aiden, but I also love myself enough to walk away from you.”
She reaches out her hand then drops the three pieces back into the bag and offers it to me with a resigned sigh. “You can have them all if you become my friend.” When I don’t take it, she shoves it into my lap. “I gave you my Maltesers, you have to be my friend.” I smile at her funny expression. She looks on the verge of taking back her chocolate and running away to eat them in the corner. “Okay,” I say. “Okay?” “Okay, I’ll be your friend.” She claps, giggling. “Yes!”
“When I grow up, I’m gonna buy you a bucket of Maltesers.” “Why?” “Because Dad says you have to buy gifts for the one you marry.” “Marry?” I whisper. “Yup!” She grins. “When I grow up, I’m going to marry you.” “You can’t marry me.” Her face contorts. “Why not?” “Mum says you have to love someone to marry them.” “Then you can just love me.” She throws her hand in the air. “What’s so hard about that?”
“Promise you’ll marry me.” She holds out her pinkie. I curl mine around hers. “I promise.”
She’s all mine with a capital M. And now, she’s back. This time, only death would do us part.
“Go, nineteen, I guess,” Teal says. Both Kim and I gawk at her. She just called Xander’s number.
“Run and I’ll chase. Hide and I’ll conquer.” He places a chaste kiss on the corner of my mouth. “Time to make your move, sweetheart.”
When she lifts her head, her gaze instantly finds mine. “I don’t know why we keep getting involved, you and I.” Same.
I know trauma. I lived trauma. It invades your personal space, claws at your walls, climbs them, destroys them, and then dances on the remains.
“There hasn’t been a day where I haven’t thought about you. Every time I manage to sleep, I dream of you. You were my obsession since we were kids, but now it’s way fucking worse. I don’t know how I managed to spend eight years without you in my life when now I suffocate if I don’t see you for hours.”
My eyes fill with tears. “Aiden…” “Choose me, Elsa. Choose us.”
“My intentions towards your daughter are simple,” I say with the calmest, most determined voice I can manage. “She’s mine.”
“I couldn’t care less about families clashing. I’ve already taken a side and it’s Elsa’s.”
“She’s mine, Jonathan. Mine.” I throw the hair towel away and walk to stand toe to toe with him. “Once you accept that fact, I’ll accept to be your heir. Until then, you’re my enemy.”
You should’ve protected her while she was alive.” I brush past him to grab my clothes. “I won’t repeat your mistake.”
“I’m addicted to you. I’m obsessed with you. I’m mad about you.”
“Bring her back!” The voice shouts. “Bring her back before I smash this whole fucking place.”
I’d agree with you, but we’d both be wrong.
“Do you know what Reed said about you the other day?” His eyes spark for the first time tonight. Sorry fuck. He masks his reaction all too soon, though. “I don’t care.” “Are you sure? It was kind of taboo.” His Adam’s apple bobs with a swallow. When he speaks, his voice is quiet. “What did she say?” “Even if I knew, I wouldn’t tell you. How about that, Knight?”
“You’re the best gift I’ve ever been given, my queen.” “And you’re mine, my king.”
