“Stop right fucking there Noxy. I’m not in love. I’m just…in trouble.”
“Besides, you won’t find it such a turn on when I morph completely into a pet rabbit.” “By the stars, maybe not. But if you were a little bunny, I could keep you in my pocket and carry you everywhere. That doesn’t sound so bad.”
“Oh, thank god,” I breathed. “I’m not a god, but I can see why you’d make the mistake, Miss Vega.” Orion winked
I just didn’t know how to be happy. And perhaps sometimes I believed I didn’t deserve to be either.
I just felt like a shitty person.
“I don’t know who you mean, you blown up seashell fart,”
“Easy. We’re Team Twinkle,” Marguerite said with a cocky grin. “Team Winkle?” I asked. “Why would you wanna name yourselves after a tiny dick?” “Twinkle! With a T!” Marguerite snapped. “Why are you shouting winkle at me?” I asked.
Don’t be with him because we were together once. For one, too brief, earth-shattering moment, you were mine. And I never should have let you go.
He’d clearly decided that I’d acted unfairly which was about as bad as shitting on his doorstep when it came to a Libra.
He created little worlds that belonged just to us. Beneath a swimming pool, between the sheets, under a willow tree. He could make anywhere ours and shut out every other living thing.
“I’ve not really dated a girl before. Not like this. Not the proper way. But with you, making you smile like that…it’s everything. A few months ago, I would have looked at myself now and thought I was losing my fucking mind. You make me wanna dress up trees, Blue. I’m one hundred percent a lunatic for you. And I don’t give a damn.”
“You’ll like it, Blue. It’s fit for a queen.”
“You convinced me.” “It didn’t take much,” I taunted. “You make it difficult to say no to you, Blue.”
He wanted my life to fall apart just like that flower had. And he wanted to be the one who did it. A pretty thing crushed in his fist. But I wasn’t fragile, I was a weapon forged in fire. And it looked like he’d realised that at long last.
Orion looked like he didn’t know whether to be angry, relieved, or afraid and he stepped closer to my sister, taking her hand in his as if to say he’d stand by her no matter how this played out.
“I don’t…I mean, how did you…when did you…?” I waved my hand between the two of them as my nose scrunched up in horror, all kinds of old school porno scenarios running through my head. Like him keeping her back after class for being a naughty girl, or her bringing him a shiny red apple and offering to do anything to get a better grade in his class.
“Darcy is everything to me,” he breathed. “She’s all I think about and all I want. I see so much good in her and she somehow brings out the best in me. And if you feel that you can’t keep this secret for us or like you have to tell the authorities about what’s going on between us, then I understand. Because you want to protect her as fiercely as I do. But even if we’re torn apart, even if I went to Darkmore Penitentiary and had to live out the rest of my days behind bars, I’d never regret a moment of it. Because my life was empty before I loved her. And parting us won’t change the way I feel

“Love,” I breathed simply. Because what else even really mattered in this world? I stood looking between the two of them again as I tried to figure out what else to say and suddenly wondering how I hadn’t seen it before.
“You mean you’ll do it for us?” I asked sweetly. His eyes slid over me. “Yeah, of course Blue.”
“That slippery sea trout,” he said indignantly. “Don’t worry daddypops, he just wants a twirl with a true gentlelady.” “That he does my bubbakanoosh,” Hamish said, nodding firmly. “You remember what your Momma always said to do with men like that though, don’t you?” “Cut off their fingers then their dingers,” they said in unison, and I snorted a laugh, sharing a look with Tory.
Our father was a cold man but when he was alone with her, he smiled, laughed, loved. We saw glimpses of a lifetime of happiness between them. Of her calming his foul moods and tempering his rage time and again.
Our parents had loved us. Wanted us. They’d died wishing for a life with us. And that knowledge meant more to me than I’d ever imagined it could.
The line of Vega is intact once more. And when you seize full control of your destiny, even the stars won’t be prepared for the might you possess.”
“Who was that?” Tory breathed and I shook my head, having no answer.
It was completely weird and totally cool.
It was also a sharp reminder of the way of Fae. The strongest ruled the land. And that would one day be us.
Max’s throat bobbed as he stared at her. “Looking good, Grus,” he said, and Seth rolled his eyes. “Will you walk with me?” He offered his arm and Geraldine surveyed him closely. “I suppose I do need a dapper chap on my arm today,” she said airily, moving forward to link her arm through his and Max looked like he’d won the lottery as they headed away.
“When you say something nice, it usually means you’re planning to do something horrible.”
I didn’t know why I was such a hot mess, I’d only seen him a few days ago, but some deep part of me needed his company like my lungs needed air.
Lionel Acrux was our enemy, and he was working against us just as surely as we needed to work against him.
I would never bow to him, but he could have me on my knees.
“I don’t want you on your knees. I want you fighting me and hating me and fucking me like you mean it. You’re Roxanya Vega and you weren’t built to bow to anyone,” he growled passionately.
“You’re so fucking beautiful, Roxy,” he breathed
His arms wrapped around me, and he drew me into a kiss unlike the others we’d shared. His tongue pushed into my mouth almost slowly and his hands slid up my spine as I gave in and it didn’t just feel like lust anymore. It felt like the sky was falling in and the earth was splitting apart and the only two things left in the world were the two of us.
Our Phoenixes were wide awake and ready to burn the world down.
I gazed around the devastation, and I could see the strength in everyone as we fought united. Together, we were unstoppable. Together, we could win.
I wasn’t just powerful; I was power embodied. My Order form was a dominant being that was matched only by the indestructible force which was my sister.
“What are you doing?” I hissed. “I’m taking the Vegas somewhere safe,” Orion announced, his voice filling the room. “You are duty bound to my son,” Lionel said in a deadly voice. Darius folded his arms, giving Orion a small nod.
You might hate me. But you like hating me way too much to want it to just stop.”
I’d never taken anything for myself like this before. Never had something purely because it was the deepest desire of my heart. But that was what she was.
And as I looked at her, I couldn’t help but feel the most overwhelming sense of happiness. Because I’d never had anything like this. Something pure and untouched by my father or the Council or the Heirs or my responsibilities… Something that was just mine.
It wasn’t a decision, it was fate. And for the first time in my life, it felt like destiny was on my side.
“You made the last few months the happiest of my life, Darcy Vega.
“I promise. But you’ll be there too. Darius needs you. I need you.” “You don’t need me, beautiful. I was always a shitty teacher,”
I’d never, ever give up on him. On us. We were meant to be together no matter what anyone said. And death wouldn’t get a say in it.
