He held me until the tears dried up, kissing my hair and murmuring soothing words.
Orion swallowed thickly then slowly nodded. “You’re right…I’ll tell Darius too. He’ll talk to Seth and make him back off and keep him from telling anyone. I won’t let him hurt you.”
“For you, anything’s worth it,” he said and my heart broke because I knew he meant it and it was almost too much to bear.
“I’m not, but Blue…if this all falls apart, you have to do as I ask. You have to let me take the fall alone.”
“Good. Because I’m not a better man,” he said in a low growl, his eyes full of shadows. “I’m the devil and I want you. I want you like I’ve never wanted anything or anyone. And I will fight to make you mine, no matter what it takes. No force in Solaria will rip us apart.”
“I’ll fight for you too, Lance Orion. Whatever it takes.” “Whatever it takes,”
day I’m going to crush you under my heel,” I promised. “I’m going to deliver every ounce of pain on you that you’ve delivered on me and everyone I love.”
“Do you think I care what people say about me? What you say about me?” I moved up as close as I could get with his air shield barring my way to him. “You’re nothing, Seth Capella. You’re just a boy kicking his toys out of the pram because I bother you. I get under your skin and you can’t handle that like a man. This isn’t facing me like Fae, it’s pathetic. And if you think you’ve won, you are so wrong.
I hadn’t wanted to drag her into my mess, but she was my twin. She’d stand by me through everything even if she didn’t approve, even if she thought the idea of me and Orion was insane. I’ll let you know everything soon, Tor, and then I’ll never lie to you again a day in my entire life.
me too fucking far. What was with all of the bullshit last night where he pretended to give a damn about me and took me back to his room? He’d already set me up by then. He’d known what he’d done to me and Darcy and yet for a moment he’d made me think…
I turned the bike sharply, aiming it at the horizon and throwing my hand out to force the earth to create a smooth path ahead of me. I loosed the throttle, drawing it back as far as it would go and the engine bellowed beneath me as I shot straight towards the edge of the cliff.
For a moment I felt a pang of guilt for the beautiful piece of machinery as it died but the roar of absolute fury that tore from Darius’s throat a moment later made it worth it. A wave of
The Dragon and Phoenix fire burned gold as it merged but the power of my flames consumed his with a flare of white hot energy.
Fae. And if he knocked me on my ass then that was fine. Because I’d just get right back up and come at him again. And again. Until he was the one staring up at me from the dirt.
I glared at him, raising my chin defiantly, daring him to do his worst as he reached out and snatched a handful of my hair into his grasp, tugging on it hard enough to tilt my head back. A gasp of pain parted my lips and his mouth collided with mine a moment later as my heart leapt at the unexpected turn of this argument.
With a wrench of determination, I jerked backwards, parting our lips through pure force of will.  The second I was free of him, I swung my right hand at him, slapping him square across his jaw as rage ate me alive.
Because I did know how that felt. When I was with Blue, it seemed like nothing else even mattered. And when she looked at me like I was the only man in the world for her, it made me feel complete and happy in a way I couldn’t put into words. I couldn’t imagine how I would feel if she rejected me, if she pushed me away despite the passion that blazed between us.
“You know, if you pulled your head out of your own ass for once, maybe you’d realise that the best thing in the world just happened to you.” “You can’t be serious?” he scoffed, standing up as fire flashed in his eyes. “Wake up, Darius!” I barked. “If you get over this bullshit hatred you think you feel for her, you’ll realise she’s not only perfect for you, but her and her sister are the best fucking solution to your father we’ve ever had.”
“Are you fucking serious?” I yelled back. “In what world did you get the impression that I was alright with Seth cutting off Darcy’s hair? Or you and Max almost killing Tory in that pool? When we talked about making sure they didn’t rise up, I never knew it would equal that kind of savagery!”
cleared my throat, putting on an expression that didn’t say the world was ending.
Holy shit, Orio, you must be in love with this girl because I’ve never seen you ignore a Starfire game.” Love?
I didn’t want to drink while Blue needed me. The least I could be for her right now was sober.
“You talk about my wife like that, you lose teeth. Any more questions?” Gabriel asked sharply.
Gabriel ripped Washer out of his seat, slamming him down on the coffee table with a snarl. “What did I just say?” He held a fist to Brian’s jaw and I folded my arms to watch the show.
“I won’t,” he said sadly. “But when you’re ready to start talking, Orio. I’ll be waiting.”
Seth was an idiot. Because this couldn’t go on forever. One way or another, we’d escape his hold on us and I vowed to be ready for when that day came. My Phoenix fire flashed hotter along my arms and I pulled it back into me, soothing it and begging it to be patient.
I’ll release you on him one day and he’ll regret ever making me his target.
“One day I’ll burn you alive,” I whispered, moving closer.
“He probably won’t show up anyway. That guy is a son of a-” “Bitch?” Orion appeared in a blur of motion, folding his arms and glaring down his nose at Diego as the door swung slowly closed behind him. He looked tired, his hair unkempt and his eyes dark. “Well I can’t argue with that.” Diego lifted a brow, clearly surprised by not having
fingers brushed over whatever Seth had painted there and a low growl escaped him.
“Umm...” “The hunter,” he answered for me, stepping closer, his fangs lengthening as he smiled. “Orion.”
“By the stars, maybe not. But if you were a little bunny I could keep you in my pocket and carry you everywhere. That doesn’t sound so bad.”
“Oh thank god,” I breathed. “I’m not a god, but I can see why you’d make the mistake, Miss Vega.” Orion winked and I snorted a laugh, serving me a glare from Diego.
He nodded, visibly swallowing. “Yes,” he said on a breath of disbelief and a note of hope. “It was Clara…my sister.”
“That means she’s alive. She’s fucking alive!”
He ran at me, lifting me into his arms and kissing me hard. His laughter was infectious as he spun me around and I clung to his shoulders, sure I’d never seen him so happy. “It’s really her?” I asked, my heart lifting. He skimmed his thumb across my cheek as he nodded. “Yes, it’s her. I’d know her anywhere.”
“Save it,” I snapped. “I don’t wanna hear about how I was stupid enough to let myself become the latest notch on his bedpost.” “Is that really all you think you are to him?” Orion asked sadly and I bristled at the implication that I was somehow missing something here.
If it was my sister stuck in the Shadow Realm, I’d sell my own soul to free her.
“We’ll help her then,” I said firmly, banishing my own doubts. Because I couldn’t even imagine the pain of losing a sibling and if there was even the slightest chance that I could help him get her back then I’d do it. No matter what. Orion grabbed me so quickly that a gasp of surprise escaped my lips just as I was locked in the iron embrace of his arms. It took my brain half a second to realise he was hugging me. He was relieved.
The darkness called to me with the promise of oblivion and for the first time, I found myself truly tempted to give in to its call.
But whenever I saw Tory sitting on her own in The Orb at meal times and Darcy looking half a second away from tears, I didn’t feel particularly victorious…I just felt like a shitty person.
She didn’t look insane, she looked beautiful and kind, a knowing smile tugging at the corner of her lips and a glimmer of honesty in her eyes.
I groaned as I realised what this was. They hadn’t been stupid enough to bite back at these rumours, they’d found someone to spin them for them.
It sounded totally fucking plausible and also made her look like a damn saint.
Laura Frost: I love the Vegas twins!!! Vikki Wilson: I wish I had a raven for a best friend! Gemma Vincent: One look at Tory Vega and I’m pretty sure I’m a sex addict too… Cassie Farrow: I can’t wait for you two to take back the throne! You’re so real and relatable!! Stephanie Gomez: I’m going to dye my hair blue just like Darcy!!
“No,” he gasped, looking like someone just took a shit in his Faezerati. “Who the fuck have they got on their PR team?”
“What the fuck is she wearing!” he yelled, snatching the Atlas out of Seth’s grip and swiping through the pictures with such force he was in danger of breaking the damn thing. “Every Fae in Solaria will see this! Each one of them will have photos of her in her fucking underwear if they want them!”
“They were grainy and dark, taken from a distance. And I tried to stop Seth from sending those to the press too.” “Did you?” I asked in surprise.
“And who the fuck is that?” Darius snarled, ignoring me as he pointed at the model Tory looked about thirty seconds away from kissing…or screwing…and if I was supposed to believe the shit in that article then maybe that was exactly what she’d done.
“I’m calling my lawyers and getting them to take every fucking photo of her dressed like that off of the internet,” Darius growled.
