“It was our Order,” Roxy said grimly. “Apparently our fire can burn right through bullshit.”
“I’m not really a Princess kind of girl,” I whispered.
“Pish posh, Tory Vega!” Geraldine scalded. “One day when you’re ruling over Solaria, I will remind you of this day and you shall have to eat your words!”
what if he threw you against a wall so hard he cracked your skull? Or pounced on you from a great height and broke your neck?”
“Why?” I forced out, reaching up to brush the tears from my cheeks. “You don’t care about me. All you’ve ever done is hurt me, so why would you promise me something like that?” I managed to push myself out of his arms and the places where his hands had been tingled with the memory of his touch like they missed it. “I do care about you,” he said, the frown on his face telling me he wasn’t sure why and I sure as shit didn’t know either. “And I’m…I mean, I shouldn’t…I never should have…” “What?” I breathed, looking into his dark eyes and hoping for…what? Something I didn’t dare let myself hope

“I think the stars picked you for me, Blue. I think you’re my Elysian Mate.”
“Be careful what you wish for, Roxy,” Darius warned, reaching out to take my hair into his grasp. “If I pull on your hair, you’ll be screaming my name in response.” He tugged just a little and I snorted dismissively.
“Because we’re the same you and me. Both fucked up, broken pieces on a game board that’s bigger than we can cope with. Both hoping to find some way of winning despite the odds being stacked against us all the damn time. Both addicted to things that push our boundaries and make us feel alive. Because at the end of the day, even feeling the worst of things is better than feeling nothing at all.”
“So I won’t let you ignore me, Roxy,” he snarled. “I’ll have your attention even if I have to take it without your permission.” “Why?” I demanded. “Why not just go after someone else?” “Because we don’t get to choose our obsessions. And you’re mine.”
“Hell yes,” Darcy agreed. “One of these days, I’m going to be the one knocking them onto their asses in the mud.”
the Phoenix and Dragon tattoos which danced with each other on his back gleaming with sweat.
“Good. Because I’m not a better man,” he said in a low growl, his eyes full of shadows. “I’m the devil and I want you. I want you like I’ve never wanted anything or anyone. And I will fight to make you mine, no matter what it takes. No force in Solaria will rip us apart.”
Whatever it takes.” “Whatever it takes,”
He was still all the things I hated about him but he was also my own personal brand of hell. And I’d been sinning for a long time, waiting for him to punish me.
“The next time you want to drown in them, tell me about it.” “Why?” “Because if you’re going to drown then I’m going to drown with you.”
Or was he really just offering to hold my hand if I fell?
Don’t be with him because we were together once. For one, too brief, earth shattering moment, you were mine. And I never should have let you go.
“I’ve not really dated a girl before. Not like this. Not the proper way. But with you, making you smile like that…it’s everything. A few months ago, I would have looked at myself now and thought I was losing my fucking mind. You make me wanna dress up trees, Blue. I’m one hundred percent a lunatic for you. And I don’t give a damn.”
“I loved it.” “I love you,” he countered and the world paused as the weight of his words slowed time itself.
“Lance,” I inhaled, a feeling of raw happiness threading itself into my heart. “This isn’t the way I was going to say it and I’m still not sure that I should have…” His brows pulled together. “I don’t know how long we have, Blue, but my heart will be yours whether we’re together or not.”
“Because you’re in my head all the time. You pulse through my blood with each beat of my heart. I live for every scrap of attention you offer me and suffer through every moment you spend ignoring me,” he said darkly, holding my eye the entire time.
“Because you represent everything I want and everything I can’t have.”
“I was the reason no one ever kept us,” I said in a low voice, like admitting this out loud might make it even more true. “I was the loud one. The rude one. The one that no one liked, let alone loved. I actually overheard one of our foster carers asking social services to find me a new placement while they offered to adopt Darcy alone. I could have told our social worker that I’d agree to that. I could have let her be happy instead of dragging her down with me. But that’s what I do. I’m the one who stopped her from having Christmas traditions or friends who lasted more than a semester. I’m the

“You hurt me every time you ignore me. You hurt me every time you spend time with Milton or that douchebag with the hat or Cal or any other fucker who catches your eye.”
“Neither do I,” he growled. “But when I see you, all I want is to lay claim to you. I want you to be mine and I know you never will be and it’s making me even more fucked up than I was to begin with. That’s why I hate you. Not because I’m supposed to or because my father wants me to, but because you represent every freedom I’ve never been given. It’s like you were designed entirely to taunt me and toy with me and crack me open and I won’t let it stand.”
His mouth found mine and he kissed me so hard I forgot whose air I was breathing, his tongue pushing into my mouth and his lips bruising as I wound my arms around his neck.
“I don’t want you on your knees. I want you fighting me and hating me and fucking me like you mean it. You’re Roxanya Vega and you weren’t built to bow to anyone,” he growled passionately. “You want me to hate you?” I asked in surprise. “I want you to feel for me. And I’ll take hate if that’s all you’re offering.”
I was drunk on the sight of him and the feeling of his body against mine. He was like a drug and I felt like an addict going back for another hit. I knew that he was poison, but I just couldn’t stop myself from taking a bite.
“You’re going to be the ruin of me,” Darius growled in my ear and I pushed myself back just enough to look down at him. “Not if you destroy me first,” I breathed in response as I painted the lines of his jaw with my fingertips. He pushed my hair away from my face and inched me back so that he could look deep into my eyes. “Is that what you think I’m trying to do?”
“Not the point,” she hissed. “And you can tell Darius if he describes a single freckle on my body, I’ll cut his balls off.” “What is it with you and cutting people’s balls off?” Orion’s brows pulled together. “Just go for the jugular, you savage.”
“You can deny it as much as you like, Roxy, but you and me are going to happen over and over,” he promised, the scent of him wrapping around me and the heat of his flesh blazing so fiercely I could feel it despite the inch of space dividing us. “So no matter how much you hate me or despise me or wish you didn’t want me in any way at all, there’s no stopping it. You don’t feel fire like that and just let it burn out.”
Two constellations weren’t sitting where they were supposed to be. It was as if the heavens had rearranged themselves for this one moment and the stars which made them up glowed even brighter than usual as they came together, so close they were almost touching. Leo and Gemini. I’d recognise those constellations anywhere. And if the sky was rearranging itself to bring them together, then it could only mean one thing. This was a Divine Moment. The stars had guided me here and they’d be bringing someone else to join me. Someone who was perfect for me in every way. Who pushed me and challenged me.
