“It was our Order,” Roxy said grimly. “Apparently our fire can burn right through bullshit.” A laugh spilled from my lips before I could stop it. My father had just fed her to the shadows, her Order had Emerged, and her body had been turned into a conduit for the dark power he’d stolen from the Shadow Realm and yet she was still biting at me.
“Because if the things I’ve read about Phoenixes are true - even half true - then the two of you could be more powerful than any Fae who has walked the earth in the last millennia. You’re like the Fae of old, legendary… I don’t even know what your limits would be, but I do know that you pose an even greater threat to Lionel now. If he finds out about this before you’ve learned to harness these powers-” “He’d kill you,” I finished for him
So if she wanted us to hate each other then I’d have to play my part in it. Because I couldn’t keep away from her, that much was becoming abundantly clear. So I’d just have to keep being her villain.
כמובן כי למה שלא פשוט תהיה נחמד אליה ואז היא תראה שהכל בסדר ותיפתח אליה? לא . אגו. מה קרה שאתה תהיה נחמד נכון? יאללה גם כן
No way in hell. So I was just going to have to work on her until she’d admit it. Because now I’d had a taste of Grus, I wasn’t going back. That girl was going to be mine.
“So. Basically you think Darius is hot?” I smirked at him tauntingly and nodded because the guy was fucking irritating as all hell, but he was also practically a demigod and trying to deny it was ridiculous.
“Well, lucky for me I went poof at midnight and turned into a pumpkin like Cinderella before I could make that lapse in judgment,” I agreed
“Yeah.” He squeezed my hand. “Look, I don’t know what this thing is between us or where it’s going, Blue, but after everything that’s happened, the one thing that’s clear to me is that I don’t want anyone else. So, this crystal is a promise from me that I’m yours. For now. Forever. Or till it all goes to shit, I don’t know which yet.”
“Don’t be an idiot, Roxy. You need to learn how to keep control of the shadows, or they’ll end up destroying you,” Darius snarled. “Well at least then I’d make you happy for once,” I threw back. His gaze darkened as he looked at me. “You can’t seriously think that?”
Though even better than that was if he was bringing his ‘friend’ Tory Vega with him. Bullshit was he not obsessed with her. I knew my brother better than anyone.
“Well, we don’t plan on ruling anything so…” Tory shrugged. “Plans,” Faun spat out a laugh. “Plan away, Miss Vega. You will soon realise that all plans are futile. The only ones that matter are written in the stars.”
All of this pretending not to be together drove me insane. But I wondered if it was the thrill of this game we were playing that had me so hooked on him, or if it was something more than that. All I knew for sure was when I was with him, it felt like the stars were singing our names.
“Be careful what you wish for, Roxy,” Darius warned, reaching out to take my hair into his grasp. “If I pull on your hair, you’ll be screaming my name in response.”
“You don’t know anything about me,” I snarled. “Yeah, I do. And that’s what you can’t stand,” he replied darkly. “Because we’re the same you and me. Both fucked up, broken pieces on a game board that’s bigger than we can cope with. Both hoping to find some way of winning despite the odds being stacked against us all the damn time. Both addicted to things that push our boundaries and make us feel alive. Because at the end of the day, even feeling the worst of things is better than feeling nothing at all.”
“Just in case they rise up, claim their place and de-throne us?” Darius scoffed. “Don’t worry, Father will kill them before that day ever comes. Why do you think I work so hard to keep them beneath us?” I raised an eyebrow at that because it sounded suspiciously like Darius was trying to protect the Vegas by tormenting them instead of his motivations being about maintaining his own power. Our power.
“If you hurt her, I’ll kill you. I don’t care if you’re an Heir or if I end up in Darkmore Penitentiary for the rest of my fucking life. I’ll take any fate for her, so just remember that when you’re playing your little game, Capella.”
I’d made yet another strike against her, even though I was beginning to feel like these attacks wounded me more than her. She’d barely spared me a glance all night. I didn’t even know what I wanted from her anymore, but the way she kept ignoring me was driving me insane.
“I came because all I want is to be free. And fear shackles you just as easily as chains if you let it. So do your worst…or don’t. I can’t control what you choose to do, but I can choose what I do.”
“Do you think I care what people say about me? What you say about me?” I moved up as close as I could get with his air shield barring my way to him. “You’re nothing, Seth Capella. You’re just a boy kicking his toys out of the pram because I bother you. I get under your skin, and you can’t handle that like a man. This isn’t facing me like Fae, it’s pathetic. And if you think you’ve won, you are so wrong. The stars are on my side because they see you for the worthless creature that you are. And they’ll pay you back through me.”
