What we see is another example, at a higher level, of local sub-optimization vs. global optimization. If each product has its own Backlog, uneven knowledge distribution within the organization would not be noticeable. The product teams optimize their own area, which is not necessarily what is best for the entire organization. The advantage of a collective Backlog when managing several products is that such irregularities are made visible.
