In order to generate value for the customer, these individual systems typically must cooperate in some fashion—no team is an island. If you ignore this fact and place your focus only on optimizing individual teams, the risk of suboptimization arises. Yes, you will have a high-performing team. However, the overall performance of the organization, i.e. the combined performance of all teams, remains the same in the best case, but will most likely decrease.
