Dave didn’t say anything back but looked at the ground. He recognized the peace offering in her words, and yet her sudden surge in level made him feel as though she was supplanting him. Intellectually he knew that wasn’t true, but he couldn’t help struggling with these feelings.
I think that this book is going to focus on their feeling far too much. At this point I just do not like this guy at all.
“Emily, you don’t understand, you will never understand. You are so good at everything. I struggle to fulfill my duties; I’ve always struggled with it.
This guy is pathetic, not for what he sees as a lack to fufill his duties, but in his cheap envy of others doing well. He is a sad man and a failure as a husband and father.
Emily had that stare that she gave him when she was gonna go along with what he was saying but wanted him to know that she didn’t approve.
This world is based on conflict, this has been said repeatedly. Her refusal to accept this is as stupid as his jealousy of his family. These people deserve to die, I pity their children.
