he might heed my words and his family wouldn’t end up like mine. Dead as doornails.
Someone had ordered the hit on my family, and I wouldn’t rest until I found out exactly who the vampire named Arrius was.
Had his eyes changed colors? They were swirling, beautiful gemstones turning from the light sapphire that they usually were to an illuminating ruby.
Never pick up a weapon you have no intention of using, Barbie. If you fight, you fight to protect, you fight to kill, or you don’t fight at all.
“The family that hunts together, dies together and all that, right?”
“Because after I kill you, I’m going to find him and I’m going to kill him too.”
That had been the night I’d first killed a vampire, but it certainly wouldn’t be the last.
“Aren’t you a fun little ray of sarcasm and bitchiness,” he commented.
I hated watching people die. Even in my dreams.
As searing as her sarcasm was though, it only made me want to shove her against a wall and devour the place from which all of her smartass comments came. Barbie was a temptation I didn’t want or need.
“Are you telling me to go to hell?” I asked with a laugh. “Don’t worry, I won’t ask you to go there. The devil has a restraining order on me.”
She hadn’t even flinched. No, of course not. Not Barbie fucking Steele.
“Rest in pieces, bitch.”
“If you fucking die, I’m going to spank your fucking ass.”
“You’re going to be the death of me,” he whispered.
But at least he'd taught me a valuable lesson. No one outside family could be fucking trusted.
I didn’t know it then, that his answer would change the rest of our relationship. “Barbie.”
“Why don’t you row row row your boat quickly the fuck away from me, hmmmm?”
“I don’t have an attitude problem,” I replied. “If you have an issue with my attitude then that’s your problem, not mine.”
“That’s right, Princess, you’ve got yourself a partner.” Fuck. A fucking. Duck.
“I’m like a flower. I look beautiful and sweet, but I’ve got a fuck ton of thorns and if you fuck with me, I will stab you.”
“Sorry,” I said, glancing back to the guys. “He’s on his manstral cycle.”
“Because danger seems to follow you where you go,”
“You’re just an odd duck.”
life goes on. Make sure you’re living it before you’re too old or too dead to enjoy it.”
If anyone had bothered to ask me what I preferred: talking or dying? I would have answered dying without a single fucking ounce of hesitation.
