“I may be warming to the Ellises, and my baby may be one, but I’ll never concede to the Ellis way. Keep her away from my child, me, and your private parts.”
“Okay. So, what more are you asking?” “For your soul.”
“The concept of having your soul in my possession isn’t sacrilegious, Nalib. You own me: mind, body, and soul.”
I leaned forward closer to him and grated, “First of all, never call me sweetheart again. It’s a goddamn term of endearment you and your twin son use too loosely.” My nostrils widened against his glare of fury. “Secondly, you may be the head, but I’m the neck that will turn his attention from your delusions of grandeur so fast you’ll be needing that oxygen tank you were hooked up to for life!”
“You’ve discovered my weakness, Nalib?” He scowled. I nodded, struggling to hide my mirth. “I have the power, Sadik.” The confidence in those words gave me a new sense of strength. Slowly, he nodded. Sadik grabbed my thigh, a piece closest to my sex with such authority. “That you do. Be careful how you execute it. I’m an Ellis; abuse of power won’t be tolerated.” “Only if your authority acts in favor of my heart.”
He may have been imperfect, but he’d always been clear. On me.
“You’ve been my Black love story. You friended me when I rejected you, made love to my doubts of this…thing existing, and you protected me even when I didn’t give you my best.”
