(He himself claims to be fluent in “only” fifteen at a time and requires a practice period to get up to speed on the others he knows.) The seventeenth-century poet John Milton could speak English, Latin, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Spanish, Aramaic, and Syriac.
