In the kitchen, he opened a bottle of mineral water and drank two large glasses, then took bottle and glass to the living room and set them on the table in front of the sofa. He toyed for a moment with the idea of going back to the bedroom to pick up his copy of Dante but, accepting the certainty that he was there to take a nap and not to read, he abandoned the idea and sat, then lay, on the sofa. The last thing he remembered was seeing that the window to the terrace was open, which meant someone else was home, but then he ceased to see or understand his surroundings, and his spirit disappeared.
