‘It's skimmed milk, is that ok? It's all I have.' Skimmed was the only form of milk I had drunk for years, the result of a period in Bosnia many years ago where all we had for months was UHT (Ultra Horrible Tasting) milk because it would last. We were in the mountains overlooking Sarajevo in the winter, so a hot brew was very welcome, but the war-torn country had no supplies to offer. When we finally got back to somewhere with real milk it had been skimmed or nothing and to me, it had tasted like nectar from the gods. Since then, any other milk was unpalatable.
I awoke at a fairly normal 0530hrs, scratched myself sleepily, yawned and briefly considered getting back under the welcoming covers. I had long ago learned though that an early morning workout came with a number of benefits. Not only did I find that no matter what the day held I would already have ticked "go to the gym" off the list and thus not be able to miss it, I also felt better physically and found myself more mentally aware. Furthermore, I could eat a hearty breakfast without too much concern because I had already achieved a calorie deficit.
I got my cardio by running or cycling so the gym was just for picking up big weights repeatedly until the muscles being engaged refused to pick them up anymore. Doing this routinely meant that I was stronger than I would otherwise be and kept the fat at bay as each session blasted about half of what they say a man's daily calorie intake should be.
My own breakfast consisted of a spinach and mushroom omelette with sliced cold ham on the side and a glass of milk. The ingredients were store cupboard standards and I ate it several times a week in a bid to avoid carb and fat-loaded bacon or sausage toasted-sandwiches
Please tell me more about your health eating habits it really contributes to character development..
