Perhaps I should just stay around camp and throw barbs instead of my spear. Make everyone else's mood as sour as my own.
Babies are filthy, messy creatures. I want one…and I am terrified of them, too.
"Trickery," I nod. "Wait until her guard is down and then claim her." I wag a finger at Angie. "Very, very clever." She just sighs. "I'm sorry I even tried to help."
“You think you are second in my eyes,” he continues. “And I am trying to tell you that you are not.”
“I was going to ask if you wanted company on your hunt this day,” Taushen says, his voice full of amusement. “But if you are just hunting roots, Brooke and I will find someone else to bother.” I give him a sour look. “Funny.” “He’s just being a prick,” Brooke says as she twines his hair. “I mean, I’m totally sure a few of the roots will put up a fight.”
"But we agreed and I'm not ready for everyone to give us shit just yet. Okay?" I nod. What choice do I have? Her look becomes sly. "I bet I can keep it private longer than you can." I groan. She knows me too well. She knows I cannot resist a challenge. "Evil creature."
“We’re keeping things secret,” I whisper to her. “At least I thought we were.” “You do realize this is not gonna be secret for long? Not with that Oscar-caliber acting?” Yeah, I’m starting to figure that out.
"You are allowed to be sad. Just do not let it take all the happiness, too.
Here I thought I wasn’t ready for love or a relationship in this strange new world, but maybe I am. Maybe it’s been standing in front of me all along, challenging me to a contest. The thought makes me smile.
It does not surprise me that I am resonating to her, only that it has taken so long for it to happen. Nadine has always been mine. This is good, I decide. This is right. This is perfect. This is also terrible timing.
"When we get out of here, I am going to claim you so hard that you will see stars," I whisper. "I'm going to kef that sweet cunt of yours, fill you with my seed, make you mine in every way, Nadine."
“Resonance is over.” “You sound so sad, my mate. Resonance may be over, but you and I have just begun.”
“I like having you in my hut.” I wrap my arms around his neck. “I like being here.” The drums start up again and I jump to my feet. “Come on.” “You do not like being here that much,” he grumbles,
“I don’t mind. It’ll give me practice. And I love holding babies.” “Yes, but I have seen what happens when that one needs to be changed. She has a rather fierce gut.” “She does not,” Angie scolds, smiling. “She’s just a baby with normal baby diapers. Sheesh.” She shakes her head at me. “Ignore him.” “Like that’s possible?”
“Stolen,” Raahosh says in a harsh voice. He crosses his arms over his chest. “They have stolen the females.” “Here we fucking go again,” Liz agrees.
