He stayed by the door, leaning against the frame as he watched me. “You’re not wearing the dress I sent you.” “This might be a good time for you to realise, I don’t tend to do as I’m told,” I said dismissively. “I think I like this one better anyway.”
“I’m not your date, dude,”
“Predictably clumsy as always, Blue,” Orion said but his tone was more teasing than really annoyed.
“May I present the Celestial Heirs, Max Rigel, Seth Capella, Caleb Altair and Master Acrux,” he said.
“They go by their mortal names, Mom,” Caleb supplied so that we didn’t have to go through the whole rigmarole again. “Darcy is in red and Tory in blue.”
“Well you’re making Xavier smile so I’ll forgive you this once,” Darius said.
“I think I might just miss your smart mouth when you fail The Reckoning,” he muttered.
“You’d better not be about to whip your junk out again,” I warned. “Because I’ve seen way too much of you for my liking.” “Oh I think you liked it just fine,”
Darius Acrux may have been a lot of things but it seemed he was a man of his word; he’d promised to be nice to me tonight and that was what he was delivering.
“You said you could ride,” Darius said, offering me a genuine smile. “So I thought maybe you’d like to see my collection.”
“Don't. I'll stand with you every time he lays a finger on you. I can't always stop him, but I'll be there.” “You shouldn't have to be,” Darius sighed heavily. “It is what it is,” Orion said, then lowered his tone. “And it won't be forever. You'll be able to wield the shadows yourself soon.”
Orion glowered at her. “I don't control her, she can say what she damn well likes.”
“Have I told you how exceptionally beautiful you look tonight, Darcy?” Darcy. He'd said my name. For the first time ever.
And I had never, in all my life, wanted anyone like I wanted him.
He moved closer and rested his hands either side of me on the wall. “I think the time for sirs and professors is over, don't you?”
He kissed me like he wasn't allowed to kiss me, but if he didn't he'd die.
“Do you wanna be in charge, sweetheart?” “Well, I am more powerful than you,” I teased.
“You don’t know how much I’ve been wanting to do that,” Caleb breathed in my ear and I smiled as I turned to press a brief kiss to his lips. “I think you made it pretty clear,” I teased.
I didn’t want Darius Acrux in my head.
“I never said I hated you,” he murmured, his voice deep as he tugged me around to face him.
“Do you hate me, then?”
“To hate you, I’d have to care about you. And I don’t give one shit about you,”
He didn’t follow me and I was glad. Because I had the horrible feeling that that might just have been a lie.
I was maybe one percent rougher with him than the others. But he had cut off Blue's hair and I just couldn't fucking forgive it. End of story.
She’d made a dress out of an oversized Pitball shirt which skimmed her thighs and made her look like she'd just crawled out of my bed and pulled it on. The idea of that excited me way more than it should have but as she turned to whisper something to her sister, I saw the name printed across the back of her shirt wasn’t Acrux, it was Grus.
“Show me what you've got, Blue.”
And though it seemed like he should have been the last person in the world for me to care about after everything he’d done to me, I wasn’t sure I could bear it if I lost him here.
My lips parted in surprise as I noted the fear in her gaze, wondering what could have happened in that fight to make her look at Darius that way.
His hand moved over hers for a moment, holding it in place against his cheek as he held her eye.
