From its 1869 origin in Pulaski, Tennessee, the Ku Klux Klan and its Confederate soldier membership under the leadership of the first recognized Grand Wizard, General Nathan Bedford Forrest, wore white sheets with holes cut out to expose the mouth, nose, and eyes, though some just exposed the eyes. According to historical records, some even placed robes on their horses.
