At this point in the conversation Ken began to press Chuck on the fact that he was, thus far, the only Klan member who had not recommended a person for new membership. Ken was lying, no one else was bringing in three members either, but his insistence on Chuck, or I should say “Ron,” bringing in new members and becoming an organizer was beginning to present a real problem. There are only so many times you can say “I’m trying” before people like Ken become angry, or worse, suspicious.
