Sometimes I scare the monsters, which is kind of scary if you think about it. So, I don’t think about it.
“I’m going to clean you up, don’t wake up swinging.” Under my breath, I add, “I’ll bite back if you do.”
I haven’t made it this long without being smart. And a smart girl knows when to retreat, especially when she doesn’t know what she could be up against.
I don’t rush, I would never want to give anyone the satisfaction of thinking they could run me away from some place.
“You’re asking Death if he wants hot cocoa?” He sounds almost mystified. “What, you don’t like it?”
“You should really stop talking to yourself. Someone is going to think you’re crazy.”
Yup, I definitely need to work out. But I’m also filled with excitement. Who knew what a thrill it would be to have someone stalking you?
“I want you to tell the Berserker I know the pact has been broken. Without the covenant in place, all deals are off.” Grim takes a step closer to the man. “He broke the decree, and now he will deal with the consequences.”
He’s pushed up his sleeves, baring his forearms, the sexy man equivalent of exposed cleavage.
I ate her soul instead of her sins. It was a very effective lesson on meal planning.
“Be a good boy and run along.”
“Jerk, it’s my window, if I want to fuck it, I will!”
“I’m not just any bitch, you asshole, but if you yell in my ear again, this bitch is going to kick your ass!”
“Look at you,” Aeson coos at me. “You brought a man home, I’m so proud of you.” “Three.” I pull my jeans up and go on to my toes to get them over my hips. “Well, I knew you were listening to me all these years.” She sighs wistfully, like a proud mother.
“She has no sense of self-preservation,” he announces to the room. I ignore him. I would only need self-preservation if I felt threatened, and I don’t.
“Quite simply, it means we’re all connected to you. Fated, if you will,” he answers. I drop my hand from my face and into my lap. “Fated for what?” Calix takes a few steps closer to our group. “Fated mates,” he announces.
I find the light of day holds many more horrors.
“As to the question of if I’m drawn to one of you, I wouldn’t kick any of you out of bed for eating crackers, but that’s just basic attraction. You’re all fuckable, but I don’t particularly like any one of you.”
Which is met with grouching from Gunnar. “You only like him because he fed you. I was around too. I’m the one that brought you all the stones,” he replies crossly. I slowly turn to face the man-child that’s about as close to a tantrum as an adult could get. “You were the one leaving the rocks?” I question. “Not just rocks, they’re gemstones.” Gunnar folds his arms over his puffed-out chest.
“Fuck off, Berserker, some of us have control of ourselves, unlike your unstable ass,”
“If you think I’m going to pick one of you and we’ll live happily ever after or some shit, you’re wrong. I’m not that girl. I like dick, in all varieties. I’m not just picking one.”
“We’re not just talking about dicking. We’re talking about a connection, with feelings and shit.”
“Fucking is all I know about any kind of mating, you ass-munch.”
“But you need to prepare yourself for the inevitability that I might not choose any of you, or maybe I’ll want all three of you.”
“I’m not going anywhere,” Grim states, before I even have a chance to glance at him. “If having them around makes you happy, I can not kill them. I’ve suffered their existence this long.” He lowers his head an infinitesimal amount, like he’s conceding to me.
“I’m a tactile person. I happen to likey the touchy.”
“I agree, why should we hold ourselves back for you?” Calix sneers at Gunnar. “How about because if I see you touch her, I’ll rip your fucking arms off. Would that work as enough of a deterrent?”
“It would be a sin to hide that beauty under a cloak, keep the robes for yourself, Death.” Calix extends his elbow to me after pitching what’s left of the chicken leg into the trash bin. “I wanna show off my queen.”
“Damiana, I will only take you when I know you’re mine. Are you mine?”
“I’m no one’s pet.”
I’m thinking he could have very easily made me his if he hadn’t made it a demand.
If he thinks this hulking out thing is scary, he better go peddle his wares elsewhere. I think it’s kinda hot.
I’m starting to realize these boys are nothing but teases. Two, or rather four, can play at that game.
They don’t know it yet, hell, I’m not even sure when I decided it, but some part of me did choose all three of them as mine.
Grim locks his arm around my waist again and starts to move us backwards, like he’s keeping me hostage. Kinky, I think I could do the whole Stockholm thing with him.
Don’t ever tell him I said this, but he’s one scary motherfucker, with or without the robe.” “Really? I don’t see it.”
Gunnar takes a step forward as if he may reach out to me, but I cut my eyes to him and dare him to try. Berserker or not, I’ll rip his fucking arm off and beat him with it if he tries to touch me.
deep down, I know I don’t want him to leave me. I want him to fight for me, even if he has to fight me.
“I welcomed the monsters as my friends a long time ago, you guys just aren’t that scary.”
