Some even think we may already be there. The Oxford University philosopher Nick Bostrom’s ‘simulation argument’ outlines a statistical case proposing that we are more likely to be part of a highly sophisticated computer simulation, designed and implemented by our technologically superior and genealogically obsessed descendants, than we are to be part of the original biological human race. On this view, we already are virtual sentient agents in a virtual universe.
