Almost 10 years since the prologue? I wonder what the significance was... And curious what she and Patrick were fighting about. I'm sure that won't go unexplained ~Z
The woman hadn’t been wearing a wedding ring. No matter—lots of people have families without getting married these days, although she’d mentioned a husband. But who looks at a house without her spouse?

She remembers her husband, Patrick, holding her hand, his face white with fear.
Is this the same Patrick from the prologue? Cuz pretty sure he was with a Lindsey not Stephanie. Could it be that the woman who was looking at the house is Lindsey wanting to move closer to stalk Patrick? She called him her husband in the prologue, it's been years maybe they divorced but she's crazy? ~Z
On Monday, just after lunch, Stephanie stares blankly at the wall in the pediatrician’s office, fatigue glazing her eyes.
I'm slightly confused at the purpose of the other two pov's we got... Is the rest of the book in Stephanie's pov? ~Z
She’ll carry them inside for their afternoon nap, still asleep, one after the other, leaving one alone in the locked car while she carries the other in. . . .
Why mention this? Is something gonna happen to the baby that she leaves behind while bringing the other inside? Possible foreshadowing? ~Z
“Not great,” Stephanie admits, giving a wobbly smile. She can feel her eyes immediately welling up. Shit. Why is it that the slightest bit of sympathy can bring her to tears these days?

As her head hits the pillow, she wonders again why the smoke alarm in the kitchen didn’t go off the other day—Patrick had found nothing wrong with it—and then she is asleep.
Did someone break in and try to set the house on fire? ~Z
What is Erica Voss doing in Aylesford? Last he knew, she was living in Denver.
Who is she!!??!? Past gf?? Someone he cheated with? ~Z
“Nothing happened,” he answers. “I just left early today, that’s all. I’m beat.”

Lindsey beside him with her hand resting placidly on her pregnant belly, Erica watching him from across the table.
Omg was he cheating on Lindsey with Erica? ~Z
He’d left Colorado rather quickly, after Lindsey’s funeral, with no forwarding address.
Lindsey DIED? I must know how ~Z
And that worries him.
Trying to understand - based on only what I know - why Patrick is making a big deal out of Erica being there. If he didn't have an affair with her, then what does she have over him that's making him so nervous? Could he have had something to do with Lindsey's death? ~Z

I personally dislike this amount of pov's... I find it difficult to keep up with. This is the 6th pov in 25 pages... ~Z

Because this woman, Erica, who they’d been so taken with in the beginning, had begun to make them feel uneasy.

And then, one day late in her pregnancy, she’d dropped by to see them, at their home.
She scammed them? ~Z
She asked for a hundred thousand dollars.

“But—what if we pay her and then she doesn’t let us have the baby?” Cheryl cried.
I'm with her, I would not have risked that. I would have waited for another child to adopt even if it hurt ~Z
Cheryl thought she saw her a couple of weeks ago, in the park, watching Devin kick a ball around, and she had a camera around her neck.
Erica stalking everyone lol ~Z
He’s probably afraid of her coming back into his life, afraid of the old attraction firing up again, getting between him and his new wife. Maybe he should be afraid. He never could keep it in his pants.

He thought it was remorse for what they’d done.
Did they kill Lindsey?? Accidentally or on purpose?? ~Z
“Why—why the hell would you think that?” he asks. His heart is racing now. It had been ruled an accident. There was no question. No suspicion at all. It was a sad, tragic event. At the time, everyone had shaken their heads, looked at him with terrible pity, but no one had suggested that he’d done it on purpose. That he’d deliberately murdered his wife.

This is the first time in a story I've read where a character doesn't hide from their partner that they're being threatened. Wasn't expecting him to tell her since he conveniently left the cheating part out of his story. ~Z
Plus she couldn’t help noticing that Niall was married, with a child—she’d seen his ring, the photos on his desk—and most married men, especially those with children, don’t want their wives finding out if they’re getting a bit on the side.
She really blew through all that adoption money.. What does she need money for? ~S

She hasn’t trusted him since she caught him cheating.
Why do people opt for staying when they know they will never trust that person again? I would never want to be in that situation. I would just leave them. ~Z

“When Patrick goes to trial, I really don’t want to tell them I actually know where my son is, and put you through the whole paternity testing thing. It would be so hard on Devin to learn the truth that way.”
Erica is so devious.. I wonder why Cheryl and Gary don't go to the police in this case... If she’s blackmailing them, her entire case against Patrick would lose credibility ~Z

She remembers to angle the gun slightly upward in her hand and then in one fast movement she steps forward and pushes the muzzle firmly against the right side of his head and pulls the trigger. It all happens so quickly.

She worries now: had she been too obvious when she told Hanna that she was worried about Patrick, that he might harm himself?

She remembers how she’d tried to run down Erica with her car that night.
Speaking of trying to kill Erica, I think Nancy and Niall will take care of that.. Cuz otherwise what is the actual point of them? ~Z
