Many people have advocated using the term “domestic terrorism” to describe the acts of people like the Pittsburgh and El Paso shooters, or the man who stabbed five people during a December 2019 Hanukkah celebration in Monsey, New York, but this term is misleading: it implies that the violence exists in opposition to the rule of law imposed by the state. In fact, these crimes are violence delegated by the American president in much the same way that Putin delegates attacks on his political opponents, Duterte delegates the killing of drug users, and Netanyahu delegates to Israeli settlers
