She was hesitant at first, but she slowly moved over, watching us with each step, like we would jump over and attack her. My heart sank at that. She was supposed to be happy, to want me, to let me claim her…not be frightened of me.

I could see she trusted him fully, and that was when I knew. I knew in that moment that I had no chance of claiming her now without him. I had to fix this.

All the air whooshed out of my lungs, and I couldn’t breathe. She left me…

I just didn’t know how to help her. She was having these horrible nightmares, and I wanted to help her. Mav was even more quiet than usual, and I feared that her being here was the reason she was having these bad dreams. That we…that I did this to her.

He was a vampire. He could have killed lots of people, but he didn’t look scary. No, he drew you in with those kissable lips, those eyes… He could kill me, and I wouldn’t even be sad about it.

I looked down to Lexi, who was so still, so lifeless. I fell to the floor beside my brother and shook her leg. “Wake up, don’t leave me. You can’t—” Tears started to roll down my face. I could see them on my brother. Raff was shaking so hard, I grabbed his shoulder to stop him from shifting. He was losing control of his wolf, and Lexi needed us here. I needed him here.
