In my mind, forgiveness implied that you were better than someone else, that they were seeking some kind of absolution from you. And that felt all wrong to me. I didn’t want to have that kind of power over anyone.
Personally, all I really wanted was to be free to be me with the people who were closest to me—flaws, fuck-ups and all.
