“I expect, after Whitney, trusting anyone would be hard, but trusting a man you barely know would be next to impossible.”
It is hard to trust someone you don’t know and he was asking her to trust him with herself. Modern women have broken relationships and we learn to hold ourselves back. This was no small thing he was asking of her.

that well of darkness that sometimes shrouded both Rubin and Diego had settled over Rubin’s shoulders like a cloak.
Protectiveness like that is a way of expressing feelings without actually using words. They have great affection for her. They lost their own sisters, which you find out in LIGHTNING GAME so they were going to do whatever it took to keep her safe.

Since he’d been a child and he’d seen a man, clearly a veteran soldier, begging in the street, one leg gone, just a stub showing, he’d been terrified that he’d end up that way.
This was a very personal scene for me to write. I had an uncle and father who served. My uncle was amazing and I was close to him. He was a good man. He lost his ability to walk and had to be in a wheelchair. He’d tried other equipment to help him walk, but it didn’t work or was too painful. So I thought of him while I was writing this.

“I’m asking you friend to friend, what the fuck is happening to me?”
When I was writing this I could feel Malichai’s despair. He wanted to be wrong, but deep down he knew. He knew Trap could distance himself, staying logical, and because Trap was having a hard time with it, Malichai knew beyond a doubt this was bad.

“Trap, my water broke. I’m in labor.” Trap nearly leapt across the room, but then he just stood in front of her, raking his hands through his hair. “This is too soon, Cayenne. You’re not supposed to do this yet.” His voice was sharp with reprimand but blended with panic. “Well, I am doing it,” she snapped back. “Believe me, I don’t want to.”
I really had fun with this. Did he really think she could just stop? LOL
Both of them were terrified. He was afraid something would happen to her. She was afraid someone would try to take her baby. Neither of them was really prepared. It was both funny and a little heartbreaking.

Cayenne, but I’m the same as you. I would never allow experiments on me again either. I give you my word I won’t let anyone experiment on you or your child.”
As a woman I believe in sisterhood. If you read all of my series you can see that as a theme of sorts.
Nonny wasn’t there and Cayenne felt vulnerable and needed reassurance. She had to depend on someone she didn’t know and Amaryllis knew that was tough to do. She wanted Cayenne to feel a connection when they didn’t even really know each other.

All of us want to help you. Just please keep in mind that always, you have a sister in the room. A woman that will stand with you no matter what.”
That feeling of sisterhood is special. When you feel alone and need some connection, sometimes sisterhood is all there is and you want to trust in it. Then someone you don’t even know comes through for you and it’s unexpected and wonderful.

Callendine is here, in the parking garage. I thought he would be closer to the building, but he’s up high, on the third floor, overseeing everything from above. He watched all of his men come to the garage, but they never left. He saw me approach Treadway with his wallet and he’s on his way to investigate. My guess is, he’s going to deploy the fail-safe. Get everyone out if you can, Malichai.
It was important they work as a team. And I wanted to show the women were just as important to the team and just as courageous as the men. No one questioned whether or not the women were about to deal with dangerous situations. They knew they could. There was no question or hesitation.

She armed a seventh bomb. Get them out of there. Bellisia, Shylah, if either of you are close, she’s going out the front entrance right now, to the north, heading away from the parking garage. If you can, one of you get to Amaryllis at the top of the garage, she’s hunting Callendine. Tania and Tommy Leven headed toward the parking garage. They’re together.
I love writing strong women. These women were lethal and sent to take out targets. They got the job done.

her. It didn’t take long to catch up with the couple, Tania and Tommy Leven.
They deserved it.
There were innocent people totally unaware of the danger they were in and this group was willing to kill them for their own purposes. People sworn to protect others were okay with killing innocents. That’s just not okay. Taking out people like that is very…satisfying. LOL And I skipped along with Bellisia as happy as could be.
I hope you enjoyed Lethal Game and will enjoy the next installment- LIGHTNING GAME!
