In order for true collaboration to result, professionals must listen more intently and focus on the needs of the whole family, not just those of the child. In addition, parents are expected to “dance” with many professionals when consideration is given to all that might be involved with any one child. Even though parents may know their child better than anyone else, it is often the professionals who take the lead in the “dance.”
