“Thanks again,” I mumbled. “Are you kidding?” His eyes followed me as we passed. “Anything to make you smile.”
“You okay?” he asked. “She asked me whether I told you about Dad.” Sam smiled up at me. “You mentioned me to your mom?”
I was barely seated before he told me, “You are so fucking gorgeous. Do you know that?”
“Makes sense.” He glances up. “He’s always looking at you. The man has longing in his eyes.”
“We’re in the backseat of a truck,” he laughs into a kiss, “but I don’t want to leave. Not for anything.”
“My parents moved in together after a week,” he says, and shrugs. “They’ve been married for fifty-two years. What’s fast to some isn’t fast to everyone.”
