The most famous tool user of the bird world is the New Caledonian crow, featured in The Genius of Birds. This crow makes and keeps its own highly sophisticated tools. It’s the only species other than humans to make and use hook tools, little sticks with a hook on the end, which the bird uses to extract grubs and other invertebrates from tree holes and the nooks and crannies of plants.
