During the controversy over McCain’s funeral, Trump tweeted that White House Counsel Don McGahn was leaving at the end of the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation battle. Although McGahn had often joked to me, “We’re all only one tweet away,” this was a classic example of Trump’s announcing something already decided, without giving McGahn a chance to announce it first.
