Yasso’s method quickly gained currency, I believe because it’s experiential. It’s something you can do with other runners as part of the training programme. All you have to do is go down to the track and do 10 repetitions of 800 metres (jogging a recovery lap of two minutes between reps). Then divide your time for the reps by 10. That time in minutes and seconds should roughly equate to your marathon result in hours and minutes. So, for me, that means completing every rep in just under three minutes. Doable, but not very easy.
