TV and books had always been my refuge.

When you grew up in Wonderland, and you kept trying to tell people that the painted red roses were actually white and no one believed you and/or cared, it was such a relief to have someone respond, “Yeah, of course they’re white roses!” It made me not feel so alone.

Friends weren’t really your friends until you’d forced them to watch your favorite TV programs. And that was even more true for boyfriends.

As comebacks went, it wasn’t great. I was sure to come up with a better one at around one o’clock in the morning when I replayed this incident for the hundredth time in my head.

Make a decision based on facts, not on feelings.
