“Am I annoying you?” he asked. He sounded amused.
They did help, and, as the pain eased, I drifted to sleep. That was the first night I dreamed of Edward Cullen.
“Oh, I know—I just wanted to ask you something while we’re trapped here.” He grinned. This could not be happening.
“I love you,” I whispered. “You are my life now,” he answered simply.
“And you’re worried, not because you’re headed to meet a houseful of vampires, but because you think those vampires won’t approve of you, correct?” “That’s right,” I answered immediately, hiding my surprise at his casual use of the word. He shook his head. “You’re incredible.”
He touched the corner of my eye, trapping one I missed. He lifted his finger, examining the drop of moisture broodingly. Then, so quickly I couldn’t be positive that he really did, he put his finger to his mouth to taste it. I looked at him questioningly, and he gazed back for a long moment before he finally smiled.
