If anyone in the room hadn’t been looking at us, they were now and some helpful little douche canoe even cut the music.
Tyler gaped at him, swivelling in his seat to point at Tory who was still munching on her pastry. “But Tory Vega’s eating!” he complained. “I don’t care if Tory Vega is starting her own bakery back there and using Polaris as a rolling pin, I’m talking to you, Corbin,” Orion snapped and I suppressed a laugh, sharing a look with Tory as she smirked.
And if I say that Tory Vega can have a bake sale and employ her sister as a cupcake stand, then I will be the first in line for the grand opening. But you, Corbin. Do not have that right. So clean up your mess and see me in detention on Thursday.”
I grinned, dropping into my seat as he tossed one to Tory. She wasn’t even paying attention and it bounced off of her desk so hard, it pinged right into Diego and hit him in the eye.
“What are you doing here?” I asked the hat kid. Danny? David? Something like that.
“I swear I just want to help,” Dennis said as he looked at me. It was definitely D something.
Once Darren had fucked off, we got on with our shadow lesson and I proceeded to watch every move that Roxy made while she made every effort not to look at me.
“What’s up with you, Duncan?” he demanded,
Mildred Canopus: Has anyone seen my beloved @Darius Acrux tonight? We had plans for a sweet serenade by Aqua Lake but he seems to have forgotten and his Atlas has died.
Tyler Corbin: I saw him hiding himself in a grave-shaped hole he’d dug in The Wailing Wood and threatening to off himself for real if you found him.
Ashleigh Clare: I heard he has to get @Max Rigel to suck all of the repulsion out of his body to even be around you and he couldn’t find him tonight #cansomebodypleasethinkofthechildren
Brianna Hayes: Have you checked your butt crack since the last time you sat on his knee?
Deema-Yara Mohiar: I saw him kissing a steaming turd by the Shimmering Springs – I guess he just thought it was you
The doors opened before I reached them and the snooty butler peered out at me. Hopkins or Smithkins or Buttkins or something.
We kept going, taking long corridors lined with paintings of Dragons and douchebags until we reached another staircase which I recognised from the time I’d spent sliding down it on trays with Xavier. We headed up until we reached the level below Xavier’s room in the top of the tower where Buttkins opened a door for me.
“Phoenix fire burns through bullshit,” I supplied. “I just released him from every Dark Coercion spell Lionel has ever placed on him.” The Heirs all turned to stare at me like I’d just told them an alien named Clive lived up my butt
Roxy swung a fist into Mildred’s throat to follow it before driving her knee up between her legs as hard as she could. “Ooo right in the vag!” Tyler called and a laugh caught in my throat.
I glanced at the lingering butler and leaned back in my chair. “Be a lamb, Jeeves, and get our friend some pancakes?” I said with a grin.
The butler scurried off and Darcy rolled her eyes at me. “Ignore Tory, she calls all the butlers Jeeves because she can’t remember all of their names.”
“Professor!” Kylie called from the back corner of the room where she was sitting alone with a ring of empty chairs around her. Even Jillian had abandoned her since she’d been outcast and knowing she was entirely isolated like that gave me a smug sense of satisfaction which just wouldn’t quit. “Aren’t you going to punish Tory for using her Atlas in class?” “Did someone just fart?” Tyler asked, looking around like he was hunting for the source of the noise as laughter spilled out around the room.
Darius snorted at me. “You look like you got dressed in the dark…”
“What did you get for him?” Seth called and I growled at him irritably. “Can’t you just be the kind of chaperones who just shut the fuck up and look at the wall or something?” I snapped.
Darius was savage, brutal, vicious, broken and mine. And in that moment, I had no desire for the darkness in him to ever let up. I wanted him. Every damaged, depraved, dirty piece of his soul was made to fit with all the twisted, ruined parts of my own. And if the stars didn’t like it then I’d happily climb up into the sky and tear them all down for him.
