“What’s this?” he asked, raising his hand to inspect it and I had to say I’d done a damn good job too. “I promised you a friendship bracelet,” I teased. “We can get together for a slumber party another time though.” He snorted a laugh at me as he backed up. “I’ll treasure it always. Goodnight, Tory.”
“You want me gone, so get it over with,” I demanded, my heart tearing down the centre. It hurt that he hated me. Despised me. I wished with all my heart that I didn’t care. But his hatred made me ache. Because why? What had I ever done to deserve it? “I’ve never done a thing to you except exist,” I spat, my eyes burning as I held back all the pain churning inside me.
My heart called to them in a way I couldn’t bear to ignore. I moved towards them instinctively and pain crashed through my skull so intensely that I screamed. “Choose your true family,” Gravebone’s voice reached me in the dark. “You’re not a Pegasus.” “I’m not a Pegasus,” I panted as the pain subsided and my thoughts muddled together, making me unsure of myself for a moment. “I’m not one of them.”
One moment she’d almost seemed like herself and the next, she’d been a stranger. And a psychotic one at that. But if that single flash of her I’d seen in her eyes had been real, that meant she was in that body somewhere, drowning in the shadows, her morals crushed, her inhibitions stolen.
The princesses came with their silver blades, two beauties with their loyal maids. And so they shouted, away, away, away!” She started up a dance, stamping her foot twice to the left, then twice to the right before jumping up and clapping above her head. “Away, away, away!” Tory and I joined in between our laughter as Justin Masters produced a flute from his bag and started piping out the tune.
“Come on, you could just save your own asses if we decided to drop you,” Caleb said. “I’ll throw you with my Vampire strength, Tory. It’ll be fun. You can control the entire landing.” “I’ll sweeten the deal for you Darcy,” Seth said, stepping closer to me. “If you get three flips in and land without stumbling, I’ll let you have a free shot at me. No shielding.”
“I’m gonna work harder.” He snatched his failed paper and strode towards the door, pausing before he left. “Thank you, sir.” I shrugged, disbanding the air shield to let him out the door. He strode away with a fucking skip in his step, and I had to check myself for a second because did I just make friends with Diego fucking Polaris?
Nova gave me a cool look which chilled me to my core. “He’s no longer welcome in my school. And he will be lucky if he doesn’t end up in prison.” “Prison?” I echoed, horror knotting up my veins. “I know he broke the law, but he’s not a bad person-” “The Court of Solaria will decide exactly what kind of person he is, Miss Vega,” Nova said with her upper lip peeling back. “Lance Orion has been a good colleague, a spectacular teacher, but he has chosen to scorn his prestigious job in favour of fucking a student. I do not have any pity for that.”
“No,” she hissed, flicking her fingers at me with a blast of air magic so that I stumbled off of the bed, dropping the pillow to the floor. “I don’t want you here telling me everything will be okay. If you want to fix something, then go and tell Darius how you feel. I don’t want to sit here with you moping about me and Lance while you refuse to even try and fix your own shit.” “I can’t fix it, Darcy. It’s too late!” I protested as her air magic shoved me back towards her door.
“I love you, Roxy,” he said in a rough, dark voice which held no room for lies or falsehood, no space for tricks of cruelty. Only the truth. I could feel it just as keenly as I could feel the rush of his magic beneath my skin. A tear slipped from my eye, searing a burning trail along my cheek as it spilled from my flesh and fell between us.
I just feel like maybe its just lust mixed with the stars cause they really dont know each other well enough to be in love
I released a bitter laugh. “I know you did. Who else would do it? My sister wouldn’t have done it and Darius is Lance’s best friend. So who does that leave, huh? Just a heartless Wolf with a sad little vendetta against me which he can’t fulfil like a man. Like a Fae,” I spat, raising my hands in preparation to fight him.
“If it appeases you, you may wish to know that my brothers and I have very specific tastes sexually and neither you nor Miss Vega fulfil them, so I can assure you the work was in no way gratifying. I prefer men in their fifties or older with considerably more body hair than you. My middle brother only enjoys sex with inanimate objects and my youngest brother likes Medusa women in shifted form.”
“Aside from when your middle brother starts humping a grapefruit or something and you’re linked in for the show, I guess,” I joked to lighten the tension in the room and Kipling just shrugged. “He’s been more interested in sponge cakes recently, but we are getting off topic,” Kipling deadpanned.
“He had responsibilities,” I said firmly. “What responsibilities?” “He’s Darius Acrux’s Guardian, for one,” I blurted. “And for two?” She arched that damn brow again. I struggled for anything I could say in court.
“It’s with regret that I laid a hand on a princess of Solaria,” he spoke evenly, and his words brought a sharp frown to my face. “And it’s with even more regret that I admit that I used her for my own gain. I groomed her, manipulated her and ultimately, I used Dark Coercion on her to force her to be mine.”
He let the jury see him as a monster, painting himself as one. But I didn’t understand why. I wanted to scream and fight and demand he take it back, but he’d ensured that no one would believe me. They thought I’d been Coerced to feel this way. And the idea that he could betray me so deeply made me want to vomit.
My hands were trembling and my breaths coming too fast as I reminded myself over and over again that she was okay, Darius had saved her, she was going to be fine. But, fuck. I’d just thrown a Solarian princess off of a roof and damn near ripped her throat out with my teeth for good measure.
We watched as she introduced a four-year-old Gabriel to the Savage King and the man who had made our entire kingdom tremble in fear smiled with all the warmth of the sun. He took him in without question, played with him, taught him to ride a horse and took him flying in the sky on his back when he shifted into his Hydra form.
“I will watch over your children and guard them until my last breath, and they will never know who I am. I swear it on all the stars.” “You will swear it on more than that,” the King snarled, grabbing Astrum’s hand and gripping his face with the other. “You’ll make a soul pact with me.” “Y-yes, sire,” Astrum agreed, his eyes wild with fear. “You will guard our children from afar with everything you have, but you will never let them discover your identity while you still draw breath.
My heart froze into a solid lump in my chest as Lionel Acrux strode into the room and our mother fell still, her face written with shock. “You,” she gasped as she stared at him in utter horror, and I could tell that her visions hadn’t shown her this. “I thought you were our friend, I thought-” “That’s where you went wrong, my Queen,” Lionel purred
“You need to know exactly who it is you belong to,” Lionel breathed, his expression lighting hungrily. “And I have a little theory that with your Order form locked down, you’ll no longer be immune to Dragon fire. How many times do you think I will have to burn my name into your flesh before the message sinks in?”
The shadows suddenly reared up inside me, the pull of them overwhelmingly strong as they crashed against my thoughts and made my vision blur. What’s happening?! My legs locked tight, and I slammed to the ground, my voice clamped deep down inside my chest, unable to break free to shout out to Darius.
I was up in a heartbeat, my muscles bunching with power as magic coiled in my limbs with deadly intent. “You should really stop underestimating me, Father,” I snarled, and he whipped around towards me, eyes wild in confusion as his dark magic failed to hold me.
