“Don’t take him from me. I’ll give you anything you want. Anything.”
“It’s what I deserve,” Darius said, his tone hollow once more.
But I’d lived my entire life under a roof where who I was had been rejected and beaten down. I knew how to protect the real me from my father. And if I could keep it from him, keeping it from the shadows was easy. It was just a shame being me right now hurt like hell.
What had happened between me and Roxy, that was…ours. It didn’t matter that it was fucked up and raw and bleeding, it was still ours.
Sometimes I feared I was too like my father. In moments like this, I relished that corruption in me.
Whoever that was wearing her skin now, it wasn’t her. They’d dragged some kind of monster back out of the Shadow Realm,
She locked eyes with the demon lurking within my soul and knew she’d be better off away from me than bound to it.”
I looked straight into my mother’s eyes and a strangled scream escaped her as she took in the black rings surrounding mine.
Clara gasped, her voice almost childlike but with an edge of darkness which warned me that she wasn’t the same girl anymore at all.
She painted a cross on my chest above my heart with a finger, her nail biting into the skin through my tank top and causing blood to flow.
Daddy told me we need him though, so I won’t hurt him again.”
“Clara has that little nickname for me,” Father said mildly like that wasn’t weird as fuck.
That’s what he’d done to his Storm Dragon pet when he wouldn’t fuck my Aunt Juniper to get her pregnant. And now she had three boys running around her ankles, waiting to see if they’d turn into Storm Dragons too when their Orders Emerged.
“Darius came to help you?” I breathed, my heart throbbing painfully as I spoke his name.
Today marks the start of a new chapter in your life where you will learn to tread the path less wandered. It’s time to face the consequences of your actions and find out if you can survive the fallout or not.
Seth whimpered softly, reaching out to brush his fingers down my arm in a comforting gesture and I was so shocked by it that I didn’t even flinch away.
An achingly long moment passed between the four of us then Max stepped aside, holding the door wide so that we could head in.
Orion pressed his tongue into his cheek, leaning back against his desk and clasping the edge of it. “Well, I’ve only found the one, but Mr Altair’s skill could mean every lamp, candle and potted plant in his room are concealing glittering dicks. Not that I’m judging.”
“The Heirs are given more advanced tasks in my classes. If you two ever want to challenge yourselves, you only have to ask.”
stance. “If you try to fuck me over, kid, I’ll break every bone in your body. And if you try to fuck over the Vegas, I’ll rip out said broken bones one by one, put them in a blender and feed them to you through a straw. I know some nasty fucking spells that will make sure you stay alive through the entire thing. Mark. My. Words.”
“I told you, I’m not going to hurt you again, Roxy,” he replied as he continued to burn my earth magic away as fast as I could conjure it.
But as the guy gave in to Geraldine’s ministrations of his ass and Max started cussing her out for groping him, I couldn’t help it. A laugh tore from my lips and I had to clap my hand over them to try and hide it. I’m definitely a dick.
my gaze lingering on the Phoenix and Dragon tattoos which dominated his back and the strangest ache building in me to call out for him not to go.
“Explain,” I demanded. “Because it sounded like you just answered a phone call to your ex-girlfriend in the middle of the night and now you’re running off to see her at the click of her fingers.”
A fallen star, an empty grave, an eternal vow. Seek he who broke it.
presence about her or the way her husband’s eyes seemed to hold no light in them at all. When he sat still, he could almost pass for a corpse.
“So, you finally grew a spine at last,” he sneered. “But it doesn’t make you any more of a man. And it definitely doesn’t make you more of an Acrux,” he hissed, his eyes travelling down me like I was a piece of dirt on his shoe. “You’ll always just be the embarrassment this family has to hide. Or maybe I’ll save us the bother and bury you so deep that even the worms won’t find you.”
“You want me gone, so get it over with,” I demanded, my heart tearing down the centre. It hurt that he hated me. Despised me. I wished with all my heart that I didn’t care. But his hatred made me ache. Because why? What had I ever done to deserve it? “I’ve never done a thing to you except exist,” I spat, my eyes burning as I held back all the pain churning inside me. I’d stopped trying to win his love a long time ago, but some part of me would never truly heal from the hurt of being nothing but a burden to my own father. “So do it,” I pressed as he continued to assess me with a cold, empty

Playing with my brother in the lake on the grounds, laughing with him and Lance as we caught Faeflies out in the woods, the snowball fight with my friends. Real, actual people who knew me, liked me.
Maybe he’d never end this suffering. Because monsters need prey to feast on, and without me he’d starve.
“You’re okay,” she whispered. “I’ll protect you.” I reached out, my throat tight as I brushed hair away from her face, a thought entering my mind that the real Clara might still be behind all of this darkness that had invaded her. But then she dropped me on the floor and stood up, clapping her hands together. “Silly boy, don’t say naughty things to Daddy again.”
“I’m an Order Conversion Therapist.”
I’m here to help.” My tongue was leaden, my pulse was too quick. The word help had sounded an awful lot like harm.
“We’re going to change which Order you identify with, young Xavier,”
“How did you feel when you first Emerged?” he asked. I ran my tongue across my teeth, thinking over the best way to play this. “I was scared,”
“Yeah? Well maybe the stars can get fucked then,” he said fiercely, his navy eyes burning. “They might be able to put rings in your eyes, but they don’t get to force you to be miserable.” “Don’t they?” “No. So take a deep breath and suck it up, sweetheart. Because the girl who came back swinging at us after she nearly drowned in that pool doesn’t let anyone tell her what to do. Not even destiny.”
“No. We’re not. Because I said no. Because I might have a thousand faults of my own. I might be stubborn and selfish and unforgiving at times. I might be harsh and hard and damaged, but I have enough self-respect to know that I’m worth more than some overdue apology blurted when there was no choice but to make it.” “You’re right…but do you remember the night I asked you to get stardust for our flying lessons from Darius? I told you he would say yes if you asked so long as you went before midnight.” “What of it?” I muttered. “Do you remember I warned you that there were two paths your

“He was falling in love with you, and you ripped his heart out,” Gabriel said quietly. “There is no greater pain in this world than that. Believe me. I know. I’ve lived it.”
“You…I’m free,” Catalina gasped, releasing her grip on me as she backed up, her hands clasping her chest as a radiant smile captured her full lips.
Darius Acrux: @Margurite Helebor, I wouldn’t fuck you again if you were the last Fae in Solaria and my dick would fall off if I didn’t. Don’t talk shit about my Mate. One more word and I’ll destroy you #trymebitch
“Absolutely, Lancelot,” he promised, ruffling my hair. He always called me that. He said it was a knight from a mortal story and it suited me because I was brave like him.
“My boy, I’d come for you if you were held by a million Nymphs. There’re no lengths I wouldn’t go to.” “Why?” I frowned. “Because I love you and your sister. And that’s what you do for the people you love,” he explained, and I nodded, my heart swelling.
Property of Azriel Orion. “It’s my father’s,” I rasped in disbelief.
The Heirs all turned to stare at me like I’d just told them an alien named Clive lived up my butt
“You were right you know,” he breathed as if the others weren’t surrounding us and as I looked into his eyes, it almost felt like they weren’t. “I’m not good enough for you.”
forwarded the photograph I’d taken of Xavier and Catalina flying together in their Order forms to Darius.
Darius: Thank you, Roxy. This means more to me than words can convey.
