“Why?” she asked eventually and I didn’t need her to ask any more than that to know what she meant. I released a slow breath as I looked into her eyes and saw pain there, true pain for her son and what he was going through.
“He stole my children’s love from me. He made me cold and brittle with them…he took them…he…” Catalina looked up at me suddenly, her dark eyes which were so like Darius’s pinning me down and holding me hostage. “He can’t find out about this. Promise me you’ll tell no one.”
“Yes. I’ll tell you everything, I swear it,” she growled fiercely and the only thing I could see shining in her dark eyes was a pure, raw determination to protect her child. And the ache that kind of devotion awoke in me couldn’t possibly be refused.
“I wish he could have done enough to win your love, Roxanya.”

Orion threw a silencing bubble over her so none of us had to listen and a smirk tugged at the corner of my lips. That asshole could be savage when he wanted to be and I kinda liked it.
“It wasn’t a gift,” Darius grunted. “We had a bet and she won. I was just paying up.” Paying up didn’t require a custom paint job with the Gemini constellation inlaid in diamonds over the engine, but fuck if I was going to point that out. His trust fund took a serious hit for that beauty for sure.
“Because you’ve been running with her every day and getting away with it.” “I don’t run with her. I run behind her and for some reason she hasn’t told me to fuck off yet. It seems like I can be within a few meters of her like that with just a few people around so long as we aren’t really interacting. I guess the stars see it as me pining for her and are content to let me torture myself.”
Principal Nova strode into the room with a polite smile on her face and a girl following behind her. Not just any girl. Mildred fucking Canopus. Darius’s second cousin and fiancé.
“I hate you a tiny bit less now,” Seth purred as he grinned at Orion and the asshole even grinned back.
“You mean…that for no reason other than the pursuit of true and honest love, you wish to fix what cannot be fixed and defy the stars themselves?” she breathed, her eyes widening as she looked at me in a way that I couldn’t quite describe. It was like, she was seeing something in me that she hadn’t thought was there before and I kinda liked the way her deep blue eyes were shining.
Geraldine stepped forward suddenly, catching my face between her palms a moment before her mouth landed on mine. I groaned with longing as she pushed me back against the bookshelf, grabbing her waist and dragging her against me as I fell into the depths of her kiss.
“Ravish me, you devilish doughnut,” she commanded and I swear my dick got even harder as she uttered that ridiculous fucking phrase.
No, everything she gave me and everything she took was about nothing more than me and her. And there was a profound kind of purity in it that made me want to drown in that feeling forever.
“Are you seriously going to leave me here with my dick out again?” I demanded, but she’d already run off. I groaned loudly, looking down at my raging hard on as she disappeared and wondering what the fuck I’d done to the stars. Because surely they were mocking me too.
“In which case this is the only bond that will matter, the only one which will present itself to you in your lifetime. The only chance for happiness…” She trailed off and I took Tory’s hand, squeezing. I knew she didn’t want people fawning over her, but her fingers held onto mine in the dark where no one could see. It was the only kind of comfort she could bear. The hidden kind.

I burst out laughing and received looks from around the room as I fought away the blush burning into my cheeks. “You’re so busted,” Tory taunted. “I know exactly what you’re doing.” I bit down on my lip, showing her the text and she fell into silent giggles with me. She was the only one in the world I’d show that message to. And it felt so good to have a little moment of lightness with my sister again.
“What happened to not being reckless?” I panted as the heat of his body called to me, sending a deep throb between my thighs. “What happened to not talking?” he growled in his teacher voice and my pulse skyrocketed. “You set off that alarm, didn’t you?” I said in realisation and he forced me harder against the trolley that was jammed against the wall, his breath burning hot on my ear. “That’s it, Miss Vega, now you’re going to be punished for disobeying me.”
“Do you know what a Delicia Crystal is, Blue?” he purred in my ear and I shook my head. He grazed the crystal between the centre of my legs and pleasure skittered out from it in echoing waves. A moan left me and he’d barely even touched me. Ohmagod. “It enhances pleasure,” he said in a dark tone before repeating the same movement and my legs trembled from the sweet bliss radiating over my skin from the crystal. “Lance,” I begged and he pushed it inside me, grazing his thumb over my clit at the same time.
“One day, Blue, I’m gonna wear your teeth marks wherever I go.” “I’ll wear yours too, Lance.” I grinned. “Just three and a half more years to go.”
Orion glanced at me with a sharp expression and I guessed he was pissed at me for staring. But if he’d actually seen inside my brain, he would have found a completely innocent scene where he stripped off and got down and dirty with the Heirs. Totally above board. I didn’t want anyone but my Vampire. But if he happened to tussle with a few muscular assholes, then far be it from me not to settle in for the show.
“You doing it,” he breathed with a seductive grin. “He’s all yours, beautiful. I want you to make him scream. I’m gonna be right there with a fold-out chair and a bag of freshly popped popcorn to enjoy the show. But I won’t be the one breaking bones – and trust me I really want to be that guy, but not this time. Seth Capella has written his fate in the stars. She’s coming for him like a monster in the night. And her name is Darcy Vega.”
“You’re actually a really good teacher,” I commented. “She says like it’s a surprise,” he mocked and I laughed. “Well, it just took me a while to realise that you’re not just a dick to everyone because you hate the world.” He arched a brow. “Am I not?” “No… you care Lance Orion.”
She smiled at him in thanks and I glanced between the two of them with warmth in my soul. The fact that Tory had given him that little friendship bracelet – which he religiously wore every day without comment – was the cutest damn thing ever. I’d hugged her so tight when I’d found out about that she’d had to forcibly escape from me after five whole minutes of squish time.
“Do you want it?” I whispered, the air seeming to stir strangely like the stars were leaning in to listen. “Because I do. It feels so right.” “Yeah,” she said, her lips parting in realisation. “I want it too. I really do, Darcy.” “So let’s take it,” I said, surprising myself with the strength in my voice.
The Heirs shared anxious looks and my heart swelled as I met Orion’s gaze, his eyes brimming with pride. I loved him fiercely in that moment. Truly. Madly. Always.
“So we intend to claim our rightful place in the kingdom!” I announced. “Bring on the press, the photoshoots, the interviews, we’re ready to step out and be the real princesses that we are.” Tory caught my hand and I lifted her arm into the air on instinct. “We’re going to fight for our throne!” she cried. “And we’re going to win it!” I finished.
Gabriel clapped from across the field, a knowing smile on his face like he’d been waiting for this to happen today. And I guessed he had.
“I love you, Tor,” I breathed, just because sometimes people needed to hear that. And maybe I didn’t say it to her enough. “Love you too, Darcy,” she whispered.
Every day, without fail, Darius had been waiting to run with me when I stepped outside. It had been six weeks now and he’d shown up every single day.
Darius was leaning against the wall in his running gear like usual, his eyes brightening as I stepped out and my gaze locked on his. “You’re here,” I breathed before I could stop myself and his eyebrows rose in surprise.
“I’ve always known who you were, Roxy. The only difference is that you’ve realised it now too. You’re a Princess, one of the two most powerful Fae in the whole of Solaria. You were always going to challenge me eventually. Just don’t start thinking I’ll roll over for you because you’ve decided you like the idea of wearing a crown.”
“Ice melts,” I pointed out. “Flowers wither,” he countered. “I guess we’re both screwed then.” “I was already aware of that.”
She’d literally been devoured by them and sucked into the Shadow Realm for years. I mean, what did she even eat while she was there? No one ever mentioned that, but it seemed pretty important to me.
I had to admit that I kinda loved Darius’s mom. Weird, I know. But we were kinda becoming…text buddies.
Bernice was like my soul sister. Snarky comments and bare faced insults tumbled from her lips in a way that was so cutthroat that she often drew a surprised laugh from me.
“Right, girls – let’s go fuck up those bitches!” Yeah, my pep talks rock.
“Don’t say that,” Caleb groaned. “Seeing Tory in her cheer uniform is a damn important part of our practice sessions. Isn’t it Darius?”
“Yeah. It is,” Darius agreed, running his hand over the stubble lining his jaw as he sat there in his letterman jacket.
“Roxy said no to me,” he said in a low voice which cut Marguerite short. “Not the other way around. And I’m pretty sure I told you not to talk shit about her once already.”
“I don’t know where you get off claiming to have something going on with me anyway. I barely even dated you and I certainly didn’t take an interest in anything you had to say. I fucked you because I was bored. And I dumped you because I hadn’t realised that getting into your pants would be even more boring. So keep your fucking mouth shut about me and Roxy otherwise we’re going to have a problem.”
“Liar,” I hissed. “Am I?” There was a smirk playing around his lips which drew my attention to his mouth and suddenly I was too hot in my skimpy outfit and memories of the two of us tangled together on the throne at the Palace of Souls were slipping to the front of my mind.
“Well, at least I have her beaten in that department,” I teased. “You definitely finished with me.” “Yeah. I could come just thinking about you,” he agreed. “And I do pretty frequently.”
Maybe Gabriel had a point about me needing to own more of my shit. I probably owed him an apology too.

Silence greeted us as the Pitball team were all gifted a view of the words Zodiac kicks ass! scrawled across our actual ass cheeks and I exchanged a grin with Bernice. “Fuck me,” Caleb breathed half a second before Darcy and Geraldine both began whooping in excitement and clapping enthusiastically.
“The Vixens took it,” Orion announced, but I barely heard him as the girls surrounding me all shrieked like banshees, leaping on top of me and squeezing me so hard that I was in danger of popping. I laughed along with them as we rolled on the ground and for a moment I felt light and free and just…happy.
