My heart splintered as my eyes fell on him. Because surely the stars were trying to destroy me tonight. Of all the Fae to answer my call, why did it have to be him? His long, dark hair was flecked with snow, his brow taut with worry as he took in my bloodstained clothes. “Seth,” I rasped,
There was just one problem: I had to let down my barriers to power share with my mortal enemy. “Do it,” Seth growled, and I squeezed my eyes tighter, trying to force the barrier down even though it felt like a wall of iron at the edges of my skin.
He sighed heavily. “Roxy Vega and I had our Divine Moment.” I froze, clutching the phone tight to my ear as hope blossomed inside me. This was a ray of sunshine in miles and miles of darkness. It was a sliver of happiness my brother could claim for his own. No one could refute it, not even Father. “She refused to be my mate,” Darius forced out and my heart shattered into a thousand jagged shards. “We’re Star Crossed.” “No,” I demanded, damn right refused it. This wasn’t right.
“Don’t be ridiculous!” she snapped, shaking my arm like she wanted me to realise what I’d done. But I already had realised. And it was too late to change it even if I wanted to.
Orion ran his tongue over his teeth, moving closer to Diego in an intimidating stance. “If you try to fuck me over, kid, I’ll break every bone in your body. And if you try to fuck over the Vegas, I’ll rip out said broken bones one by one, put them in a blender and feed them to you through a straw. I know some nasty fucking spells that will make sure you stay alive through the entire thing. Mark. My. Words.”
And there was no way I could just abandon her to the lure of the shadows alone. There were a thousand things I ached to say to her, but what was the point? It was too late.
Lance’s gaze darkened as he looked between me and Roxy, but he held back on anything he might have wanted to say as he cut a glance towards the hat kid.
the world physically pushing us apart if we tried to be alone together. What the fuck was that about?
I knew all about that creepy bit of knitwear and I had zero desire to spend any time with his soul grandma or whoever the fuck was knitted up inside it.
“I swear I just want to help,” Dennis said as he looked at me. It was definitely D something.
“Then what’s the problem?” I demanded. He hesitated for a long moment then shrugged. “I don’t want to hurt you.” My lips parted at that declaration and the sincerity of those words echoed deep down into me with a truth I couldn’t deny.
“I’m okay with you being my weakness, Blue. Because that means my weakness is a badass, hot as fuck Phoenix with enough fire in her veins to rival the sun. So come at me stars, I’m invincible!”
Home. That sounded like a real place at last. Not one that just lived in my dreams and fantasies. I really had a place I belonged. And he belonged right there with me.
I mean, seriously, don’t come between a girl and her breakfast.
Darius Acrux: @Margurite Helebor, I wouldn’t fuck you again if you were the last Fae in Solaria and my dick would fall off if I didn’t. Don’t talk shit about my Mate. One more word and I’ll destroy you #trymebitch
“He’s all yours, beautiful. I want you to make him scream. I’m gonna be right there with a fold-out chair and a bag of freshly popped popcorn to enjoy the show. But I won’t be the one breaking bones – and trust me I really want to be that guy, but not this time. Seth Capella has written his fate in the stars. She’s coming for him like a monster in the night. And her name is Darcy Vega.”
“Ice melts,” I pointed out. “Flowers wither,” he countered. “I guess we’re both screwed then.” “I was already aware of that.”
He still didn’t speak, but there was no denying his power was there. I could almost feel his fingers pressing to the wood just as mine were, like the thin barrier of this door didn’t divide us. But it did. Just like everything else did.
My hands began to shake, and my legs trembled as I blazed through my gifts, but I refused to stop until each and every piece of dark magic was shredded from his soul.
“In fact, I don’t want any free hits from you anyway. When I defeat you, it’s going to be because I’m stronger, more capable. And you’re going to look up at me from the dirt and wish you’d never become my enemy.”
“The stars might have decided that you can never be mine,” Darius said roughly, refusing to move away from me. “But I am yours. No matter what. I don’t care where we end up or who we’re with, I’ll always be yours. And I’m going to fix the damage I did to us even if the stars don’t care. I’m going to prove to you that I could have been worthy of you if I’d just listened to my heart sooner.”
“Ooo right in the vag!” Tyler called and a laugh caught in my throat. “Yes, Tor!” Darcy screamed as she pushed her way to the front of the crowd. “Show her how we fight where we come from!”
Rosalie swung her Atlas towards the Vegas and Darcy pulled herself together enough to speak. “And that was tonight’s fake news everyone. See you when we beat their asses.”
Yep, it’s official. I’m into my straight best friend. Thanks for the headfuck stars.
My beautiful blue-haired warrior.
“I love you, Roxy,” he said in a rough, dark voice which held no room for lies or falsehood, no space for tricks of cruelty. Only the truth. I could feel it just as keenly as I could feel the rush of his magic beneath my skin.
“And I know it doesn’t change anything. That it can’t change anything,” he growled. “But I’m going to prove it to you. I’m going to do everything I can to make it up to you, for the rest of my life if that’s what it takes. I’ll never forgive myself for bringing this curse on us. And I’m never going to stop loving you either.”
“Because that’s what love is,” I said in a low voice, running my finger over a bare patch of skin on my right forearm thoughtfully. “It’s giving everything without expecting anything in return. It’s sacrificing your heart and happiness for someone else and it’s owning all of your mistakes and trying to make them right. Not because you expect to get something in return for it. But because the person you love needs to know how you feel.”
“But nothing,” he snapped. “That’s why all of us are working so damn hard to figure out a way around this for you. Because we believe you both deserve that. So stop selling yourself short. Stop selling her short. And decide right here and now that you’re going to fight for your girl. Really fight for her. Not just achieve this bullshit mission to right all your wrongs against her. Prove to her that you deserve her and then climb up into the fucking sky and tear the stars right out of it for her if they still don’t agree.”
Did I want to fight with every goddamn fibre of my being for Roxy Vega to be mine? “Yes, it is.”
“You will never hunt her again!” he roared as he battered his fists down over and over. “You will never put your fucking mouth on her, never sink your fucking fangs into her ever again!”
“I’d take death over life without you,” he breathed, his voice rough and broken by fear.
“I miss you too,” he interrupted. “More than any words could ever convey.”
“Roxy’s ex. The one who left her to drown in that car wreck,” I muttered. If that asshole had lived in Solaria, I’d have ruined his life a long time ago. “Yeah…you wanna go pay him a visit?” Seth waggled his eyebrows enticingly and my spine straightened as I looked at him with more interest.
The rest of the fight was finishing up around me and I fell over fucking Zane with his fucking cocky attitude and his shit tattoos that looked like he’d done them himself and that smug fucking look on his fucking face that said he still seriously believed he had some hold on my girl.
A moment later, Darius arrived, placing down her coffee with one of the chocolate wafers she loved before walking off without saying a word.
His mother was our mother. He was our blood. Our brother.
In the words of Geraldine: fuck me sideways with a Dragon dildo. I don’t need any more chaos in my life.
growing. Tory Vega didn’t blush. This was not like me. And those weirdos in my stomach were at it again and – holy mother of shit, the weirdos are butterflies. Motherfucking butterflies! What the hell is happening to me??
“Nobody fucks with my girl and gets away with it,” he growled, his lips brushing my ear for a moment and making me shiver.
“As much as I ache for the feeling of your body against mine – and I really fucking do – I think if I was allowed a single cheat against this curse that keeps us apart, I’d just want to be able to hold you in my arms,” he replied. “Just to wake up with you there, knowing you were safe.”
“Fuck fate,” I snarled because it was time I owned what was going on between us. “No one gets to pick my future for me. I choose what I want, and I want you.”
“Fuck fate,” Darius agreed darkly.
“I’m sorry I did this to us,” I breathed. I might not have been sure everything between us was fixed yet, but I was beginning to believe it could be and I was starting to think I’d made the wrong choice when I’d been offered it.
“I wasn’t going to let you head back to that house with that fucking monster for the summer and be at his mercy,” she growled fiercely. Protectively. Like I was something she cherished and wanted to protect in the same way I ached to look after her.
“Yes,” Roxy breathed, her voice shaky like she was afraid of saying it out loud. “I can’t keep denying it anymore. I’m sick of denying what my heart wants.” “Forever?” I confirmed, moving so close to her that the sweet scent of her skin enveloped me, and I never wanted to exhale again. “Forever,” she agreed, with a finality that weighed on us so heavily that for a moment I couldn’t breathe.
And I refused to let him hurt Roxy or her sister while I still drew breath.
