Seth clenched his jaw, magic pouring from him as his brow creased with concentration. “Come on you asshole, wake up and tell me you hate me.”
“It’s blood loss,” Darius explained in a hollow tone. “He’ll need time to recover.” “Yeah, I’m starting to understand how that feels,” Seth wheezed
“Seth found out about us at the Halloween party. He’s been threatening to tell Nova, making Darcy do whatever he likes to torment her.” A dangerous growl slid from Darius’s throat. “He won’t bother you anymore.”
Poor Darius Acrux, he hungered for power so much that it destroyed the only good thing he was ever offered.
“Lance is off limits,” I snarled. “Which means the girl he loves is off limits too.”
But as the guy gave in to Geraldine’s ministrations of his ass and Max started cussing her out for groping him, I couldn’t help it.
“I’m not going anywhere,” he murmured against my lips. “We made a deal with the stars, remember?”
“I happen to like that about you,” Orion commented. “It means I’ll always be able to catch you.”
“Fuck the stars too, Darius,” I breathed, and his muscles tightened around me as he held me close. “Fuck every shining, gleaming one of them.”
This house was my prison, and I didn’t want to die here. Not before I’d actually lived.
I was a Pegasus. A big ass stallion of a Pegasus. And I was proud to be one.
“I wish he could have done enough to win your love, Roxanya.”
Don’t talk shit about my Mate. One more word and I’ll destroy you #trymebitch
A hint of smug satisfaction fluttered against my senses from Seth as he flicked his fingers to destroy the earth magic he’d conjured before hiding his smile beneath his hand as he gasped like he was shocked by what had just happened.
“That was even better than the collector’s edition of Advanced Numerology, beautiful. And that little slut knows how to make my spine tingle.”
“Assholes! Despite the grunge hair Capella is sporting and the fucking worst mohawk of the century Rigel seems to think is cool, this is not a fucking mosh pit at some prissy indie rock gig. So get your asses up and start fighting like Fae or you’ll all be in detention for the rest of the week.”
He held his heart like I’d mortally wounded him, stumbling back a step and my laughter grew. “Don’t insult me.”
The Heirs shared anxious looks and my heart swelled as I met Orion’s gaze, his eyes brimming with pride. I loved him fiercely in that moment. Truly. Madly. Always.
Gabriel clapped from across the field, a knowing smile on his face like he’d been waiting for this to happen today. And I guessed he had.
“Don’t say that,” Caleb groaned. “Seeing Tory in her cheer uniform is a damn important part of our practice sessions. Isn’t it Darius?”
“Roxy said no to me,” he said in a low voice which cut Marguerite short. “Not the other way around. And I’m pretty sure I told you not to talk shit about her once already.”
I’d take on a million Nymphs for her and my parents too. But I was definitely going to need a real sword.
Call me an asshole, but she was one serious dog of a girl because of all those Faeroids she took.
Tyler Corbin: I saw him hiding himself in a grave-shaped hole he’d dug in The Wailing Wood and threatening to off himself for real if you found him.
“Take her back to my room,” Darius said, his gaze flipping up to meet Caleb’s. “Make sure there’s a fire roaring in the grate so she can restore her magic while she sleeps. I’ll sleep at the Hollow tonight. There’s things we all need to discuss.”
“You were right you know,” he breathed as if the others weren’t surrounding us and as I looked into his eyes, it almost felt like they weren’t. “I’m not good enough for you.”
Darius: Thank you, Roxy. This means more to me than words can convey.
“Beautiful Xavier, now let’s see your father feeding you one of the carrots,” Portia encouraged and the Heirs’ laughter rang in my ears.
“Says the girl who’s wearing a Hores badge, Kylie,” Tyler called across the room. “I heard you have Seth’s name tattooed on your vag with the words insert here to make me howl and an arrow pointing to your butthole. Is that true?”
Seth was doing a handstand on Caleb’s freaking shoulders while the Vampire Heir ran around to see how long he could hold on for.
He even tossed my massage oil in the trash. And that shit was a new bottle.”
“You go get the food then and we’ll meet you there,” Seth said, waving a hand at me to shoo me along. “And get me some Oreos. And milk. Don’t forget the milk.”
“The stars might have decided that you can never be mine,” Darius said roughly, refusing to move away from me. “But I am yours. No matter what. I don’t care where we end up or who we’re with, I’ll always be yours. And I’m going to fix the damage I did to us even if the stars don’t care. I’m going to prove to you that I could have been worthy of you if I’d just listened to my heart sooner.”
“Ooo right in the vag!” Tyler called and a laugh caught in my throat.
“Holy shit,” Seth breathed as he nuzzled against my arm. “This would be so hot if it wasn’t, you know, Mildred. But if I imagine her being literally any other girl then I’d be so turned on right now.”
“Thank you. Though I’ve got no idea what I’ve done to earn it.” “You’ve done a thousand things to earn it, Lance. You make me so happy, you’ve taught me to trust again, you’ve helped me become a true Fae.”
“Professor Lance Orion, you are hereby detained by the Court of Solaria for fraternising with a student who is none other than a Princess of Solaria.”
My twin, the night to my day. She was in pain too, and somehow in her arms it felt a little lighter. Like she was carrying some of mine and I was carrying some of hers.
Because I was Darius Acrux, the most important man in the fucking room.
“Agent Hoskins, you have been served on behalf of the FIB for failing to provide due care and comfort to a suspect under your charge and for attempting to spy on legally protected conversations between myself and my client. I’ll see you in court.”
“Fuck me, Lance you couldn’t have just had a quickie, could you?”
“Four hundred and three kisses-” “You counted the kisses?”
“She’s all that matters to me! I need you to swear it. You’ll protect her, teach her, fix your shit with Tory, and make something work between the Heirs and the Vegas so that you can overthrow Lionel and Clara.”
“It’s with regret that I laid a hand on a princess of Solaria,” he spoke evenly, and his words brought a sharp frown to my face. “And it’s with even more regret that I admit that I used her for my own gain. I groomed her, manipulated her and ultimately, I used Dark Coercion on her to force her to be mine.”
I felt a cracking in my soul that spoke of the promise we’d made on the stars together. To always fight to be together. He’d broken it. And he’d broken me in the process.
Sometimes I got so angry at Lance that I punched myself just so he’d feel it wherever the fuck he was.
P.S. Glad to see you back. Don’t break alone. I know you have your sister, but I’m always here if you need to talk about him.
My heart turned to stone as I hurried downstairs, and Seth Capella walked at my side like a prowling animal on the hunt for a kill.
Tory moved to walk beside me, wordless as she realised where I was headed and suddenly Darius, Caleb and Max materialised too like they were drawn magnetically to Seth’s side.
Seth stepped closer with a growl. “I am an Heir to the Solarian throne. You haven’t got enough power in your veins to fuel a bus. How could you ever think we would be mated? You’re just a low born, low mannered, low class snake.”
