Once the sexist overtones, poor writing, the erasure of the Expanded Universe from officially recognized canon were mashed together these new story lines did not integrate well into the sequel trilogy. They had piss-poor or non-existent character development. They were overtly and intentionally marketed directly at SJW outrage culture to the exclusion of a wider audience. The executive and their devoted ideologues gambled that they could run one group of consumers and fans out of the franchise in order to replace them with another.
