The Cameronian acceptance of social liberalism is also untenable because social liberalism cannot stay still. Progressive politics must, by its very nature, move towards more radical positions partly because people on the Left are in competition to outdo each other and so will push it further as part of the status competition – this is why social media hatefests are usually directed at other people on the Left.
