St. Joseph’s suffering for Jesus and Mary lasted for decades and was of such interior intensity that no martyr’s blood can ever compare to the sacrificial love that the father of Jesus offered for so many years. He lived with the never-ending knowledge that his wife’s Heart would be pierced and his Son mocked, ridiculed, and hated.
Saint Joseph is the greatest saint after Mary because he suffered more than any other saint for Jesus. Before St. John the Baptist offered his head to the axe and the early Christians surrendered their bodies to the lions, St. Joseph had already given his heart and soul as a sacrifice for Jesus.
It is a truth then that the more a soul loves, the more it suffers. That is why St. Joseph’s Calvary lasted thirty years with no respite whatever. When he was honored with the dignity of foster-father of Christ, the Cross was set up in his heart and he labored in its shadow for the rest of his life.
God was pleased to take to himself St. Joseph before our Savior’s Passion, to spare him the overwhelming grief it would have caused him.17
Blessed art thou among all women. Let angels and men praise thee; let all the generations know, praise, and exalt thy dignity; and may the Most High be eternally praised for having created thee so pleasing in his eyes and in the sight of all the blessed spirits. I hope to enjoy thy sight in the heavenly fatherland.
In 1913, St. Luigi launched an international association of intercessors for the suffering and the dying. He named the association the Pious Union of St. Joseph, and St. Pope Pius X became the first official member. The headquarters of the Pious Union of St. Joseph is located right next to the church of San Giuseppe al Trionfale. International branches of the Pious Union of St. Joseph are located throughout the world. In the United States, the Pious Union of St. Joseph is headquartered in Grass Lake, Michigan (see here).
My dear St. Joseph, be with me living, be with me dying, and obtain for me a favorable judgment from Jesus, my merciful Savior.
Saint Joseph, my dear father, gaze upon me from heaven. Detach me from the things of earth, obtain for me purity of heart, love of God, and final perseverance.3
On May 1, 1955, Pope Pius XII declared May 1 to be the liturgical feast of St. Joseph the Worker.
God our Father, creator and ruler of the universe, in every age you call man to develop and use his gifts for the good of others. With St. Joseph as our example and guide, help us to do the work you have asked and come to the rewards you have promised.
Today, God wants to make St. Joseph’s fatherhood known and replicated in the world.
If men resemble St. Joseph, the kingdom of Satan will be destroyed.
All fatherhood has its origin in God and finds its earthly model in St. Joseph.
In heaven, Jesus continues to listen to his virginal father because St. Joseph’s desires are always in accord with God’s most holy will.
he also greatly fears laymen who pattern their fatherhood off of St. Joseph.
He worked with manly tools, chopped wood, and swung a sharp axe! Such images are needed in homes and churches today to convey the real manhood of St. Joseph.
Satan is a filthy, perverse, and pornographic creature. Purity repulses him.
The number one sin among men today is impurity. It is a spiritual plague destroying the minds and hearts of men on a global scale. The spiritual plague of impurity involves pornography, immoral actions with oneself, homosexual acts and lifestyles, pedophilia, cohabitation, contraception, and abortion. These sins leave men powerless and spiritually impotent.
A filthy heart blinds a person to the countenance of God.
Valiant and strong is the man who, like St. Joseph, perseveres in humility; he will be conqueror at once of the devil and of the world, which is full of ambition, vanity, and pride.
Men who want to be pure, pray.
To you, O Blessed Joseph, we have recourse in our affliction, and having implored the help of your most holy spouse, we now, with hearts filled with confidence, earnestly beg you to take us under your protection. Through that sacred bond of charity which united you to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God, and by that fatherly love with which you embraced the Child Jesus, we humbly beg you to look graciously upon the beloved inheritance which Jesus Christ purchased by his blood, and to aid us in our necessities with your power and strength.
Defend, O most watchful guardian of the Holy Family, the chosen children of Jesus Christ. Keep from us, O most loving father, all blight of error and corruption. Aid us from on high, most valiant defender, in this conflict with the powers of darkness. And just as you once saved the Child Jesus from mortal danger, so now defend God’s Holy Church from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity. Shield us by your constant protection, so that, supported by your example and strengthened by your help, we may be able to live a virtuous life, die a happy death, and obtain everlasting bliss in
