The medical papers that describe these circumstances use dispassionate language, but—and it could just be what I’m bringing to it—I feel like these case reports are tonally off. Like the doctors are all, “Holy shit! Guys, we have to write about this one.” Other illnesses are no-fault; not this. This is the annals of freak show.
