I keep imagining the FMC's speech pattern like Mila Jovovich's character in The Fifth Element. "Mul-TEE pAHss."

“These are all very useful and important things,” Max said, somewhat defensively, as if he saw my eyes widen when I walked in. I nodded. Sure.

When you visit your crush’s house and suspect he might be a hoarder.

On a particularly cold day, he stepped outside, shivered, looked up at the sky, and declared, “I’m not made for this,” before wandering back into the house. I quickly learned that Max was apparently only “made for” an exceptionally narrow set of environments, temperatures, activities, and interactions.

Max is a top tier boyfriend because I love an 80-year-old curmudgeon trapped in a 30-year-old’s body.

“Oh, Max.” She gave him a mischievous smile, stepping into a dim, golden light. “Would you judge a squirrel by its ability to swim?”

Filing away this metaphor for future use.

one Valtain said to him, “I thought you didn’t do this anymore.” When Max flatly provided, “What, Order bullshit?”, the Valtain shook his head, flailed his hands weakly, and said, “I meant, well… the world.”

“Loo-nuh-tic?” New word. I hadn’t found one of those in a while.

Jesus, that was horrific like wtf.

I fear that the end of this book is going to gut me.
