Artillery spotters, conspicuously absent during the attack on Ifs, now zeroed in on the fields around the town and made up for lost time. One of their first ranging shots to land struck the regimental aid post situated in a barn in the middle of town. Not long before, Dale Sharpe and Mike Brunner had exited the aid post following treatment for some scratches suffered in the sniper hunt. The explosion set the roof alight, threatening to incinerate those too wounded to move, trapped in the paddocks below.
