Instead of comparing ourselves with ourselves, we should have been using the original standard found in the life of Jesus so that the measure of God’s goodness revealed in Christ, demonstrated in purity and power, would have remained the same through the past 2,000 years. Perhaps then we can see why He intended for us to do “greater works” than He did! (See John 14:12.) We would be building upon His example for centuries with fresh courage and great faith to see what might be possible in our lifetimes.
