I knew that very second that if I ever had a reason to hate Max, if he ever treated me badly, I would return to this sentence as proof that he was the worst person alive. But for now, I was able to nod dreamily and agree.

‘They all say they love napping. I don’t know why. I don’t know who told all these grown men that what women really love are giant pizza-guzzling babies who need sleep all the time.’

‘When will this all end? I just want someone nice to go to the cinema with.’

‘I know. I’m very in love with her. I’m just not ready to commit properly yet.’ ‘You’re thirty-six.’
