Maintain the scale in a graph. “Scale” refers to the proportional relationship between the horizontal and vertical axes. This ratio should be about 3 to 4, so a graph that is 3 inches wide will be about 4 inches tall. Simple is best and less is more. Keep the chart simple but not simplistic. Convey one idea as straightforwardly as possible, with distracting information saved for the accompanying text.
